A Possible Description of Classical Motion in Quantal Systems

Abstract

With the aid of canonicity conditions developed in the time-dependent Hartree-Fock theory, classical motion in quantal systems is described. The basic idea is the use of the squeezed coherent state which is commonly knonwn in quantum optics. The main task is reduced to solving Hamilton's equations of motion. A general scheme for giving the initial condition is discussed.

Time-dependent variational approach in terms of squeezed coherent states: Implication to semi-classical approximation

Y. Tsue

A general framework for time-dependent variational approach in terms of squeezed coherent states is constructed with the aim of describing quantal systems by means of classical mechanics including higher order quantal effects with the aid of canonicity conditions developed in the time-dependent Hartree-Fock theory. The Maslov phase occurring in a semi-classical quantization rule is investigated in this framework. In the limit of a semi-classical approximation in this approach, it is definitely shown that the Maslov phase has a geometric nature analogous to the Berry phase. It is also indicated that this squeezed coherent state approach is a possible way to go beyond the usual WKB approximation.

Time-Dependent Variational Approach in Terms of Squeezed Coherent States

Y. Tsue, Yoshikazu Fujiwara

A general framework for a time-dependent variational approach in terms of squeezed coherent states is given with the aid of canonicity conditions developed in the time-dependent Hartree-Fock theory. By using a formula given by Balian and Brezin for canonical decompositions of generalized Bogoliubov transformations, we show that this approach is entirely equivalent to that given by Jackiw and Kerman in terms of the most general Gaussian functions, which is originally motivated for the variational definition of the effective action in the quantum field theory. The resultant equations of motion have structure of classical Hamiltonian systems consisting of displacement degree of freedom and squeezing degree of freedom in the configuration space. The initial conditions for solving these equations, particularly for the squeezing degree of freedom, are discussed in connection with the minimum-uncertainty relations of the squeezed coherent state. For a simple one-dimensional quantum-mechanical Hamiltonian with potentials of quadratic terms or less, the present formulation gives an exact result for the time-evolution of the Gaussian wave packet.

Time-Evolution of the Coherent and the Squeezed States of Many-Body Systems Based on the Basic Idea of the Boson Mapping and the TDHF Method

Kuriyama, A, Providência, J, Tsue, Y +1 more

Various works performed by the present authors in the 1990s are reviewed. The topics discussed in this paper are mainly related to the time-evolution of the coherent and the squeezed states of the systems obeying the su(2)- and the su(1,1)-algebra. The formulations are based on the basic idea of the boson mapping and the TDHF theory in canonical form. Under the time-dependent variational procedure for trial states appropriately chosen, the time-evolution of the systems under investigation is described. Further, it is shown that this method enables us to obtain the classical counterparts of the original quantal systems.

Canonical Formulation of Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock Method

A. Kuriyama, M. Yamamura

On the basis of a canonical formulation of full time-dependent Hartree-Fock method, we develop a formulation of time-dependent Hartree-Fock method for the description of collective motion in a completely canonical form.In the derivation of basic equations, the general form of canonicity condition plays an important role.

A connection between quantum Hilbert-space and classical phase-space operators

Diógenes Campos, Juan Diego Urbina, Carlos Viviescas

We develop a general `classicalization' procedure that links Hilbert-space and phase-space operators, using Weyl's operator. Then we transform the time-dependent Schrödinger equation into a phase-space picture using free parameters. They include position Q and momentum P . We expand the phase-space Hamiltonian in an ℏ-Taylor series and fix parameters with the condition that coefficients of ℏ 0 , -iℏ 1 ∂/∂ Q and iℏ 1 ∂/∂ P vanish. This condition results in generalized Hamilton equations and a natural link between classical and quantum dynamics, while the quantum motion-equation remains exact . In this picture, the Schrödinger equation reduces in the classical limit to a generalized Liouville equation for the quantum-mechanical system state. We modify Glauber's coherent states with a suitable phase factor S ( Q , P , t ) and use them to obtain phase-space representations of quantum dynamics and quantum-mechanical quantities.
