Exact results related to extended Hubbard model containing couplings up to next-nearest-neighbour terms were deduced for restricted regions of parameter space in arbitrary D > 1 dimensions at half-filling and T = 0 temperature. Different types of commensurate charge-density waves and spin-density waves, a ferromagnetic domain and a phase separation region were found, the last being for the first time signalled at the level of approximation-free results in dimensions higher than one. In connection with other presented phases we extended their stability domains in comparison with previously published data. The deduced phase diagram is complete in the localized limit. The dependences on the interaction range and dimension were studied. The obtained results emphasize the importance of next-nearest neighbour terms in the development of ordered phases within the studied system.
The ground-state phase diagram of the extended Hubbard model containing nearest- and next-to-nearest-neighbor interactions is investigated in the thermodynamic limit using an exact method. It is found that taking into account local correlations and adding next-to-nearest-neighbor interactions both have significant effects on the position of the phase boundaries. Improved stability domains for the $\ensuremath{\eta}$-pairing state and for the fully saturated ferromagnetic state at half-filling have been constructed. The results show that these states are the ground states for model Hamiltonians with realistic values of the interaction parameters.
Phase diagrams of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model with a nearest neighbor interaction
V and site-off-diagonal (bond-charge
X and bond-bond
W) interactions at half-filling are obtained numerically, using the level-crossing approach for finite-size clusters. This analysis is straightforward extension of the preceding work [cond-mat/9909277], where only the
X term is considered as a site-off-diagonal term. Similarly to the
X term, the
W term enlarges bond-charge-density-wave (BCDW) and bond-spin-density-wave (BSDW) phases for
W<0 and
W>0 cases, respectively. In the strong-coupling region, however, the
W term causes ferromagnetism for
W>0, and shifts the boundary of the phase separation in the
U/t≪−1 region, which are different from the roles of the
X term. In addition, we discuss a parameter region where the BSDW state is the exact ground state, and show that the exactly solvable point appears just on the phase boundary between the BSDW and the ferromagnetic phases.
We consider an extended Hubbard model of interacting fermions on a lattice. The fermion kinetic energy corresponds to a tight-binding Hamiltonian with nearest-neighbor (-t) and next-nearest-neighbor (
t∣IH) hopping matrix elements. In addition to the on-site Hubbard interaction (U) we also consider a nearest-neighbor repulsion (V). We obtain the zero-temperature phase diagram of our model within the Hartree-Fock approximation. We consider ground states having charge- and spin-density-wave ordering as well as states with orbital antiferromagnetism or spin nematic order. The latter two states correspond to particle-hole binding with ${\mathrm{d}}_{{\mathrm{x}}^{2}\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{y}}^{2}}$ symmetry in the charge and spin channels, respectively. For
t∣IH=0, only the charge-density-wave and spin-density-wave states are energetically stable. For nonzero
t∣IH, we find that orbital antiferromagnetism (or spin nematic) order is stable over a finite portion of the phase diagram at weak coupling. This region of stability is seen to grow with increasing values of
t∣IH.
The half-filled extended Hubbard model (including nearest-neighbor interaction) is considered in perturbation theory at weak coupling on a d-dimensional hypercubic lattice (d\ensuremath{\gtrsim}3). It is shown that the exact critical temperature and the exact order parameter in the weak-coupling limit differ from the corresponding Hartree results by a renormalization factor q of order unity. This renormalization factor q is calculated systematically up to O(1/d) in a 1/d expansion. The results depend sensitively on dimension and on the relative strength of the nearest-neighbor interaction. The renormalization factor in d=3, estimated from the 1/d expansion, is q\ensuremath{\simeq}0.282 for the pure Hubbard model, q\ensuremath{\simeq}0.179 near the spin-density-wave to charge-density-wave transition and q\ensuremath{\simeq}0.830 in the limit of pure nearest-neighbor interaction.
