Abstract

We investigate the modulational instability (MI) of two-component Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) in an optical lattice formed inside a cavity. By adjusting the pump–cavity detuning and the pump amplitude, the optical potentials are modified, and then the hopping parameters are altered. The relevant MI scenarios due to these changes are analysed and numerically confirmed. Our results show that the driven cavity can be utilized as a possible tool to control the MI of the BECs.

Modulational instabilities of two-component Bose-Einstein condensates in the optical lattices

Teng Fei, Zhengwei Xie

Based on the linear stability analysis, the modulational instablilities (MIs) of two-component Bose-Einstein condensations (BECs) in the optical lattices are studied, especially the relation of MI with the different component and modulational wavevectors, and with the inter- and intra- interaction when the condition of atom current conversation is not satisfied. The results show that when the condition of atom current is not satisfied, the new MI areas of two-component BEC in the optical lattice with the component wavevectors, modulational wavevectors and the interaction between components can arise. The above results can gives us some useful information about manipulating two-component BECs in practice.

Modulational instability of two-component dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical lattice

Huang Jin-song, Haifeng Chen, Zhengwei Xie +1 more

From the linear stability analysis, the modulational instability (MI) of two-component dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) in an optical lattice is studied. The relation of the region of MI with the on-site interaction and the site-to-site interaction induced by the dipole-dipole interaction is obtained. The results show that there is a great influence of site-to-site interaction on the MI of the two-component dipolar BECs in the optical lattices. This gives us some useful information for manipulating two-component dipolar BECs in practice.

Modulational instability of two-component Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical lattice

Guangri Jin, Chul Koo Kim, Kyun Nahm

We study modulational instability of two-component Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical lattice, which is modeled as a coupled discrete nonlinear Schr\"odinger (DNLS) equation. The excitation spectrum and the modulational instability condition of the total system are presented analytically. In the long-wavelength limit, our results agree with the homogeneous two-component Bose-Einstein condensates case. The discreteness effects result in the appearance of the modulational instability for the condensates in miscible region. The numerical calculations confirm our analytical results and show that the interspecies coupling can transfer the instability from one component to another.

Modulational Instability of Trapped Two-Component Bose–Einstein Condensates*

Jian-Wen Zhou, X. X. Li, Rui Gao +4 more

Abstract The modulational instability of two-component Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) under an external parabolic potential is discussed. Based on the trapped two-component Gross–Pitaevskill equations, a time-dependent dispersion relation is obtained analytically by means of the modified lens-type transformation and linear stability analysis. It is shown that a modulational unstable time scale exists for trapped two-component BECs. The modulational properties—which are determined by the wave number, external trapping parameter, intra- and inter-species atomic interactions—are modified significantly. The analytical results are confirmed by direct numerical simulation. Our results provide a criterion for judging the occurrence of instability of the trapped two-component BECs in experiment.

The Critical Amplitude of Two-component Dipolar BECs in an Optical Lattice

By means of the linear stability analysis and discrete nonlinear Schrdinger equation, the critical amplitude of the modulational instability(MI) of two component dipolar Bose-Einstein Condensates(BECs) in an optical lattice is studied. The relations of the two-component dipolar BECs excitation spectrum in the optical lattices and the critical amplitude of the MI with the site-to-site interaction induced by the dipole-dipole interaction are obtained. The results show that the site-to-site interaction induced by the dipole-dipole interaction has a significant influence on the stability of the two-component dipolar BECs in the optical lattices, which can give some useful information for manipulating two-component dipolar BECs in practice.

Stationary States and Modulational Instability of Coupled Two-Component Bose–Einstein Condensates in a Ring Trap

邓海明, 钟宏华, 黄嘉豪 +3 more

We investigate modulational instability(MI) of a coupled two-component Bose–Einstein condensates in a rotating ring trap. The excitation spectrum and the MI condition of the system are presented analytically. We find that the coupling between the two components strongly modifies the MI condition, and the MI condition is phase-dependent.Furthermore, we discuss the effect of MI on both density excitation and spin excitation. If the inter- and intra-component interaction strengths are all equal, the MI causes density excitation but not spin excitation, and if the inter- and intracomponent interaction strengths are different, the MI causes both density excitation and spin excitation. Our results provide a promising approach for controlling the stability and excitation of a rotating two-component Bose–Einstein condensates by modulating its coupling strength and interaction strength.
