An exactly soluble one-dimensional, two-particle problem

Abstract

We examine a one-dimensional problem involving two interacting particles in an external field for which the Schrödinger equation can be solved analytically for the ground state. The Hartree approximation for this system also has a simple analytic solution of the form previously derived by Foldy. Comparison of exact and Hartree solutions leads to precise estimates of the effect of correlations on the binding energy and on the two-particle probability distribution.

The granularity of weakly occupied bosonic fields beyond the local density approximation

M. Eckart, R. Walser, W. P. Schleich +2 more

We examine ground state correlations for repulsive, quasi one-dimensional bosons in a harmonic trap. In particular, we focus on the few particle limit N =2, 3, 4, ..., where exact numerical solutions of the many particle Schrödinger equation are available, by employing the multi-configuration time-dependent Hartree method. Our numerical results for the inhomogeneous system are modeled with the analytical solution of the homogeneous problem using the Bethe ansatz and the local density approximation. Tuning the interaction strength from the weakly correlated Gross–Pitaevskii to the strongly correlated Tonks–Girardeau regime reveals finite particle number effects in the second-order correlation function beyond the local density approximation.

Exact solution for many-body Hamiltonian of interacting particles with linear spectrum

M. V. Entin, Leonid Braginsky

The exact solution of the Schrödinger equation for the one-dimensional system of interacting particles with linear dispersion law in an arbitrary external field is found. The solution is reduced to two groups of particles moving with constant velocities in the opposite directions with a fixed distance between the particles in each group. The problem is applied to the edge states of the 2D topological insulator.

One-particle Green’s function of interacting two electrons using analytic solutions for a three-body problem: comparison with exact Kohn–Sham system

Taichi Kosugi, Yu‐ichiro Matsushita

For a three-electron system with finite-strength interactions confined to a one-dimensional harmonic trap, we solve the Schrödinger equation analytically to obtain the exact solutions, from which we construct explicitly the simultaneous eigenstates of the energy and total spin for the first time. The solutions for the three-electron system allow us to derive analytic expressions for the exact one-particle Green's function (GF) for the corresponding two-electron system. We calculate the GF in frequency domain to examine systematically its behavior depending on the electronic interactions. We also compare the pole structure of non-interacting GF using the exact Kohn-Sham (KS) potential with that of the exact GF to find that the discrepancy of the energy gap between the KS system and the original system is larger for a stronger interaction. We perform numerical examination on the behavior of GFs in real space to demonstrate that the exact and KS GFs can have shapes quite different from each other. Our simple model will help to understand generic characteristics of interacting GFs.
