Abstract

We consider the formation of entangled quantum states for an atomic Bose condensate interacting with an external electromagnetic field in a single-particle state under conditions of change in various regimes for exchange interaction processes. These states of the Bose system have high phase coherence and are accompanied by the generation of squeezed states of a new type in terms of the parameters defined by a combination of transition operators for the condensate atoms and external-field photons with an appropriate polynomial deformation of the algebra SU (2). We show that localized quantum structures corresponding to stable elementary excitations of the atoms and the field in the condensate can be formed in principle. We also analyze the purely quantum effects of collapse and revival for the level populations of the Bose condensate and the change in atomic statistics as well as determine the conditions for the formation of superstructure of these unsteady states for the Bose system.

Interaction and entanglement of non-classical electromagnetic fields with 3-level model atom

D. V. Popolitova, Olga V. Tikhonova

We investigated the dynamics of a three-level atom during the interaction with two resonant electromagnetic quantum fields and obtained an analytical solution. Effects of “collapse” and “revival” are revealed for atomic level populations and mean photon number. The atomic dynamics are compared for different initial field states. The changing in photon statistics is shown. The entanglement between atomic and field subsystem is calculated using еруSchmidt parameter.

Light-matter interaction and Bose-Einstein condensation of light

Vivek M. Vyas, Prasanta Kumar Panigrahi, Venkatraman Srinivasan

The atom - electromagnetic field interaction is studied in the Dicke model, wherein a single field mode is interacting with a collection of two level atoms at thermal equilibrium. It is found that in the superradiant phase of the system, wherein the Bose-Einstein condensation of photons takes place, the notion of photon as an elementary electromagnetic excitation ceases to exist. The phase and intensity excitations of the condensate are found to be the true excitations of electromagnetic field. It is found that in this phase, the atom interacts with these excitations in a distinct coherent transition process, apart from the known stimulated emission/absorption and spontaneous emission processes. In the coherent transition it is found that while the atomic state changes in course of the transition process, the state of electromagnetic field remains unaffected. It is found that the transition probability of such coherent transition process is macroscopically large compared to other stimulated emission/absorption and spontaneous emission processes.

Generation of atom-photon entangled states in atomic Bose-Einstein condensate via electromagnetically induced transparency

Le‐Man Kuang, Lan Zhou

In this paper, we present a method to generate continuous-variable-type entangled states between photons and atoms in atomic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). The proposed method involves an atomic BEC with three internal states, a weak quantized probe laser, and a strong classical coupling laser, which form a three-level $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-shaped BEC system. We consider a situation where the BEC is in electromagnetically induced transparency with the coupling laser being much stronger than the probe laser. In this case, the upper and intermediate levels are unpopulated, so that their adiabatic elimination enables an effective two-mode model involving only the atomic field at the lowest internal level and the quantized probe laser field. Atom-photon quantum entanglement is created through laser-atom and interatomic interactions, and two-photon detuning. We show how to generate atom-photon entangled coherent states and entangled states between photon (atom) coherent states and atom-(photon-) macroscopic quantum superposition (MQS) states, and between photon-MQS and atom-MQS states.

Nonlinear coherent modes and atom optics

Vyacheslav I. Yukalov, Elizaveta P. Yukalova, Vanderlei Salvador Bagnato

Abstract By pumping energy into a trapped Bose-Einstein condensate it is possible to generate nonlinear coherent modes representing non-ground-state condensates. A Bose-condensed system of trapped atoms with nonlinear coherent modes is analogous to a finite-level atom considered in optics which can be excited by applying external fields. The excitation of finite-level atoms produces a variety of optical phenomena. In the similar way, the generation of nonlinear coherent modes in a trapped condensate results in many phenomena studied in what is termed atom optics. For example, there occur such effects as interference patterns, interference current, Rabi oscillations, harmonic generation, parametric conversion, Ramsey fringes, mode locking, and a dynamic transition between Rabi and Josephson regimes. The possibility of creating mesoscopic entangled states of trapped atoms and entanglement production by atomic states in optical lattices are studied.

Atom-photon cluster as an elementary emitter

Ashat M. Basharov

The interaction of an atomic ensemble localized in a microcavity with external electromagnetic fields under Raman resonance conditions with an optically forbidden atomic transition involving photons of the microcavity mode has been described in terms of third-order polynomial algebra. It has been shown that atoms and photons localized in the microcavity under these conditions form a united object, an atom-photon cluster, on the states of which the irreducible representations of polynomial algebra are implemented. Classical coherent and quantum broadband electromagnetic fields are considered as external fields. The effective Hamiltonian, effective dipole moment operator, and relaxation operator of the atom-photon cluster are expressed in terms of the generators of polynomial algebra, which is the algebra of the dynamical symmetry of the problem. The developed mathematical technique has been applied to describe the main radiative processes—spontaneous emission and nutation effect—on atom-photon clusters. All of these effects are peculiar and differ from similar phenomena on two-level atoms, but only simple cases of the mentioned radiative processes have been considered.
