Nonequilibrium non-Markovian steady states in open quantum many-body systems: Persistent oscillations in Heisenberg quantum spin chains

Regina Finsterhölzl, Manuel Katzer, Alexander Carmele

We investigate the effect of a non-Markovian, structured reservoir on an open Heisenberg spin chain. We establish a coherent self-feedback mechanism as the reservoir couples frequency dependently to the spin chain. Thus, loss and driving take place due to the interaction of the spin chain with its own past. This new paradigm of non-Markovian imposed boundary driving allows discussion of a new kind of nonequilibrium steady state. We show that for certain parameters, even in the long-time limit, persistent oscillations occur within the chain. Moreover, we demonstrate that the conditions for these oscillations and excitation trapping depend on the characteristics of the chain, thus making it possible to characterize a chain by detection of its emitted signal under influence of self-feedback.

The effect of Rashba spin-orbit interaction on persistent current in a chain of two Holstein-Hubbard rings

Maria O. Smolkina, I. Yu. Popov, Ashok Chatterjee

Abstract We study the persistent current in a chain of two coupled quantum rings threaded by an Aharonov-Bohm flux in the presence of electron-phonon and Rashba spin-orbit interactions. In the framework of the Holstein-Hubbard model, the equations for ground state energy, persistent current and Drude weight were derived. Obtaining of the expression for the ground state energy allowed us to obtain the persistent current by a conventional way (differentiating). The influence of the magnetic flux and the Rashba spin-orbit interaction on the ground state energy, persistent current and Drude weight was studied numerically.

Directional Dependence of Spin Currents Induced by Aharonov–Casher Phase

Taeseung Choi, Chang‐Mo Ryu, A. M. Jayannavar

We have calculated the persistent spin current of an open ring induced by the Aharonov–Casher phase. For unpolarized electrons there exist no persistent charge currents, but persistent spin currents. We show that, in general, the magnitude of the persistent spin current in a ring depends on the direction of the direct current flow from one reservoir to another. The persistent spin current is modulated by the cosine function of the spin precession angle. The nonadiabatic Aharonov–Casher phase gives anomalous behaviors. The Aharonov–Anandan phase is determined by the solid angle of spin precession. When the nonadiabatic Aharonov–Anandan phase approaches a constant value with the increase of the electric field, the periodic behavior of the spin persistent current occurs in an adiabatic limit. In this limit the periodic behavior of the persistent spin current could be understood by the effective spin-dependent Aharonov–Bohm flux.
