Abstract

In analogy to Kolmogorov’s classical extension theorem, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions under which a family {W(t1,⋅⋅⋅,tn)} of state operators, defined on the finite tensor products ℋt1⊗⋅⋅⋅⊗ℋtn of some family {ℋt∈T} of complex Hilbert spaces, extends to a state operator on the infinite tensor product ⊗t∈Tℋt.

The set of all projective limits of a projective system of state operators

Wilhelm Ochs

Let {WK} be a projective system of state operators defined on the finite tensor products of some family {ℋt} of Hilbert spaces. We prove that all projective limits of {WK} on the complete tensor product ⊗t∈T ℋt can be generated from every single projective limit by certain operations. In addition, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for {WK} to have projective limits on incomplete tensor products of the ℋt’s.

Gleason measures on infinite tensor products of Hilbert spaces

Mark J. Christensen

Nowak [Bull. Acad. Pol. Sci. Ser. Sci. Math. Astron. Phys. 22, 393–5 (1974)] has given an example of a consistent (in the sense of Kolmogorov) family of Gleason measures [A. M. Gleason, J. Math. Mech. 6, 885–94 (1957)] {mn} defined over ⊗ni=1Hi which do not extend to a Gleason measure on ⊙∞i=1 ΦHi for a given construction of the infinite tensor product. In this paper we show: (1) In the example of Nowak it is not necessary to assume, as is done, that the Hi are infinite dimensional. (2) That every consistent family developed from pure states, which is the type considered by Nowak, extends over the complete infinite tensor product of von Neumann [Compositio. Math. 6, 1–77 (1938)]. (3) Even if each Hi is two-dimensional and the complete infinite tensor product of von Neumann is used, it is possible to give a simple counterexample to the conjecture that every consistent family of Gleason measures extends by the use of nonpure states.

On the Relation between States and Maps in Infinite Dimensions

Janusz Grabowski, Marek Kuś, Giuseppe Marmo

Relations between states and maps, which are known for quantum systems in finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces, are formulated rigorously in geometrical terms with no use of coordinate (matrix) interpretation. In a tensor product realization they are represented simply by a permutation of factors. This leads to natural generalizations for infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces and a simple proof of a generalized Choi Theorem. The natural framework is based on spaces of Hilbert-Schmidt operators [Formula: see text] and the corresponding tensor products [Formula: see text] of Hilbert spaces. It is proved that the corresponding isomorphisms cannot be naturally extended to compact (or bounded) operators, nor reduced to the trace-class operators. On the other hand, it is proven that there is a natural continuous map [Formula: see text] from trace-class operators on [Formula: see text] (with the nuclear norm) into compact operators mapping the space of all bounded operators on [Formula: see text] into trace class operators on [Formula: see text] (with the operator-norm). Also in the infinite-dimensional context, the Schmidt measure of entanglement and multipartite generalizations of state-maps relations are considered in the paper.

On the equivalence of separability and extendability of quantum states

B. V. Rajarama Bhat, Kalyanapuram Rangachari Parthasarathy, Ritabrata Sengupta

Motivated by the notions of [Formula: see text]-extendability and complete extendability of the state of a finite level quantum system as described by Doherty et al. [Complete family of separability criteria, Phys. Rev. A 69 (2004) 022308], we introduce parallel definitions in the context of Gaussian states and using only properties of their covariance matrices, derive necessary and sufficient conditions for their complete extendability. It turns out that the complete extendability property is equivalent to the separability property of a bipartite Gaussian state. Following the proof of quantum de Finetti theorem as outlined in Hudson and Moody [Locally normal symmetric states and an analogue of de Finetti’s theorem, Z. Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie und Verw. Gebiete, 33(4) (1975/76) 343–351], we show that separability is equivalent to complete extendability for a state in a bipartite Hilbert space where at least one of which is of dimension greater than 2. This, in particular, extends the result of Fannes, Lewis, and Verbeure [Symmetric states of composite systems, Lett. Math. Phys. 15(3) (1988) 255–260] to the case of an infinite dimensional Hilbert space whose C* algebra of all bounded operators is not separable.

Quantum Strassen’s theorem

Shmuel Friedland, Jingtong Ge, Lihong Zhi

Strassen’s theorem circa 1965 gives necessary and sufficient conditions on the existence of a probability measure on two product spaces with given support and two marginals. In the case where each product space is finite, Strassen’s theorem is reduced to a linear programming problem which can be solved using flow theory. A density matrix of bipartite quantum system is a quantum analog of a probability matrix on two finite product spaces. Partial traces of the density matrix are analogs of marginals. The support of the density matrix is its range. The analog of Strassen’s theorem in this case can be stated and solved using semidefinite programming. The aim of this paper is to give analogs of Strassen’s theorem to density trace class operators on a product of two separable Hilbert spaces, where at least one of the Hilbert spaces is infinite-dimensional.
