Abstract

Abstract With the development of our highly information‐oriented society, there is an increasing demand for large‐scale and high‐level information processing. Toward this goal, studies have sought to create a new computation principle having an information processing ability exceeding the existing Neumann‐type computer, such as the creation of a new computation theory or the integration of the frameworks of existing computation theories. As one such approach, quantum neural computing is considered to be interesting, which integrates neural computing and quantum computation. This paper constructs the feed‐forward neural network, which is widely used in practice, based on the qubit neuron model. The 4‐bit parity‐check problem and the general function identification problem are considered. The performance is compared to the feed‐forward network based on the conventional neuron model, and it is shown that the proposed model has a higher performance than the conventional model, using the learning diagram composed of convergence rate and the number of learning iterations. The reason for the better performance is also discussed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Syst Comp Jpn, 35(13): 43–51, 2004; Published online in Wiley InterScience ( www.interscience.wiley.com ). Neural network based on QBP and its performance

Nobuyuki Matsui, Noriaki Kouda, H. Nishimura

In recent years, some researchers have been exploring quantum computers in view of neural networks to realize a distributed and strongly connectionist system that achieves parallel and fast information processing. We (1998) have proposed and investigated a qubit neuron model based on quantum mechanics, and constructed the quantum backpropagation learning rule (QBP). In this paper, we show an improved QBP neural network model and discuss its performance on solving the 4 bit parity check problem and the function identification problem. Then, we conclude that our model is more effective than the conventional one in information processing efficiency.

Learning performance of neuron model based on quantum superposition

Noriaki Kouda, Nobuyuki Matsui, H. Nishimura

Concerns the use of quantum computer methods to develop a distributed and strongly connectionist system that achieves parallel and fast information processing. We have proposed a qubit-like neuron model based on quantum mechanics and constructed the quantum backpropagation learning rule (QBP). In this paper, we show our improved QBP neural network model and discuss its performance on solving the 4 bit parity check problem, the function and the gray-scale pattern identification problem. Then, we find our model is more excellent than the conventional one in information processing efficiency.

Qubit Inspired Neural Network towards Its Practical Applications

Kentaro Mori, Teijiro Isokawa, Noriaki Kouda +2 more

Neural networks have attracted much interest in the two decades for their potential to describe brain function realistically. Quantum computing is a likely candidate for improving the computational efficiency of neural networks, since it has been very successful in doing so for a selected set of computational problems. We have proposed Qubit neural network that is a multilayered neural network composed of Qubit inspired neurons with Quantum Back Propagation learning and confirmed the performance concerning basic benchmark problems such as 4-bit and 6-bit parity check problems. In this paper, we examine this Qubit neural network through more practical problems, for example, the Iris data classification and the night vision processing.

Qubit Neural Network

Nobuyuki Matsui, H. Nishimura, Teijiro Isokawa

Recently, quantum neural networks have been explored as one of the candidates for improving the computational efficiency of neural networks. In this chapter, after giving a brief review of quantum computing, the authors introduce our qubit neural network, which is a multi-layered neural network composed of quantum bit neurons. In this description, it is indispensable to use the complex-valued representation, which is based on the concept of quantum bit (qubit). By means of the simulations in solving the parity check problems as a bench mark examination, we show that the computational power of the qubit neural network is superior to that of the conventional complex-valued and real-valued neural networks. Furthermore, the authors explore its applications such as image processing and pattern recognition. Thus they clarify that this model outperforms the conventional neural networks.

Learning Algorithm and Application of Quantum Neural Networks with Quantum Weights

Dianbao Mu, Zunyou Guan, Hong Zhang

A novel neural networks model with quantum weights is present.Firstly, based on the information processing modes of biology neuron and quantum computing theory, a quantum neuron model is presented, which is composed of weighting, aggregating, activating, and inspiriting.Secondly the quantum neural networks model based on quantum neuron is constructed in which the input and the output are real vectors; the linked weight and the activation value are qubits. On the basic of the gradient descent algorithm, a learning algorithm of this model is proposed. It is shown that this algorithm is super-linearly convergent under certain conditions and can increase the probability of getting the global optimal solution. Finally, the availability of the model is illustrated in both convergence speed and convergence rate by two application examples of pattern recognition and function approximation.
