Abstract

Asymmetrical waveguide-whispering-gallery resonator (WGR) couplings are proposed to manipulate single-photon transport properties in a hybrid system composed of a linear waveguide, a WGR and two separated two-level atoms. Tri-frequency/quadri-frequency photon attenuators and all-pass filters (caused by decoupling effects) are realized via the symmetrical/asymmetrical waveguide-WGR couplings and the phase difference induced by two atoms. The study of group delay shows slow-light and fast-light effects in this hybrid system, and dissipation effects imposing on the transmitted single photon are also analyzed.

Manipulating Single-Photon Transport Properties in an Asymmetrical Waveguide Coupled to a Whispering-Gallery Resonator Containing a Two-Level Atom

Tao Zhou, Xiaofei Zang, Danhua Xu

A hybrid system containing an asymmetrical waveguide coupled to a whispering-gallery resonator embedded with a two-level atom is designed to investigate single-photon transport properties. The transmission and reflection amplitudes are obtained via the discrete coordinates approach. Numerical simulation demonstrates that a trifrequency photon attenuator is realized by controlling the couplings between the asymmetrical waveguide and the whispering-gallery resonator. The phase shift, group delay and dissipation effects of the transmitted single-photon are also discussed.

Single-Photon Transport Properties in Coupled-Resonator Waveguide with Nonlocal Coupling to a Whispering-Gallery Resonator Interacting with Two Separated Atoms

Tao Zhou, Xiaofei Zang, Jing Chen

We investigate the single-photon transport properties in a one-dimensional coupled-resonator waveguide non-locally coupled to a whispering-gallery resonator embedded with two separated two-level atoms based on the real-space approach. The control of single-photon transport is realized by modulating the detuning between two separated atoms, phase differences, and the symmetric/asymmetric nonlocal couplings. The multi-frequency photon-filter is obtained, and the influences of dissipation effects on single-photon transmission spectra and the phase shift are also discussed.

Controlling single-photon transport properties in a waveguide coupled with two separated atoms

Xiao Fei Zang, Tao Zhou, Bin Cai +1 more

Based on the symmetric, asymmetric atom–photon couplings and the phase difference between two separated atoms, single-photon transport properties in an optical waveguide coupled with two separated two-level atoms are theoretically investigated. The transmission and reflection amplitudes for the single-photon propagation in such a hybrid system are deduced via a real-space approach. Several new phenomena such as phase-coupled induced transparency, single-photon switches, symmetric and asymmetric bifrequency photon attenuators are analyzed. In addition, the dissipation effect of such a hybrid system is also discussed.

Single-photon routing with whispering-gallery resonators

J. C. Huang, Jiahao Zhang, L. F. Wei

Abstract Quantum routing of single photons in a system with two waveguides coupled to two whispering-gallery resonators (WGRs) are investigated theoretically. Using a real-space full quantum theory, photonic scattering amplitudes along four ports of the waveguide network are analytically obtained. It is shown that, by adjusting the geometric and physical parameters of the two-WGR configuration, the quantum routing properties of single photons along the present waveguide network can be controlled effectively. The routing capability from input waveguide to another one can significantly exceed 0.5 near the resonance point of scattering spectra, which can be achieved with only one resonator. By properly designing the distance between two WGRs and the waveguide-WGR coupling strengths, the transfer rate between the waveguides can also reach certain sufficiently high values even in the non-resonance regime. Moreover, Fano-like resonances in the scattering spectra are designable. The proposed system may provide a potential application in controlling single-photon quantum routing.
