Correspondence Priciple for the Spin Light Theory

Abstract

In this work a precise quantum analogue of the spin precession of the classical theory is obtained. As an example a neutral Dirac's particle (neutron) is considered. It is shown that classical and quantum theories lead to an adequate description of the spin precession

Spin-orbital motion and Thomas precession in the classical and quantum theories

The motion of a magnetic spin particle in electromagnetic fields is considered on the basis of general principles of the classical relativistic theory. Alternative approaches in derivation of the equations of charge motion and spin precession, the problem of noncollinearity of the momentum and velocity of a particle with spin, the origin and the meaning of Thomas precession in dynamics of the spin particle are also considered. The correspondence principle in the spin theory is discussed. 1

Classical and quantum theories of spin

Fabián H. Gaioli, Edgardo T. Garcia Alvarez

A great effort has been devoted to formulate a classical relativistic theory of spin compatible with quantum relativistic wave equations. The main difficulty in order to connect classical and quantum theories rests in finding a parameter which plays the role of proper time at a purely quantum level. We present a partial review of several proposals of classical and quantum spin theories from the pioneer works of Thomas and Frenkel, revisited in the classical BMT work, to the semiclassical model of Barut and Zanghi [Phys. Rev. Lett. 52, 2009 (1984)]. We show that the last model can be obtained from a semiclassical limit of the Feynman proper time parametrization of the Dirac equation. At the quantum level we derive spin precession equations in the Heisenberg picture. Analogies and differences with respect to classical theories are discussed in detail. 1

Classical Motions of Spin-½ Particles

Kenneth Rafanelli, Ralph Schiller

From the WKB solutions to the squared Dirac equation we derive the classical trajectories and spin precessions originally postulated by Bargmann, Michel, and Telegdi for charged spin-\textonehalf{} particles. Identical equations of motion are obtained from the WKB solutions to the Dirac equation.

Relativistic spin operator and Dirac equation

Paweł Caban, Jakub Rembieliński, Marta Włodarczyk

We give a direct link between description of Dirac particles in the abstract framework of unitary representation of the Poincaré group and description with the help of the Dirac equation. In this context we discuss in detail the spin operator for a relativistic Dirac particle. We show also that the spin operator used in quantum field theory for spin $s=1/2$ corresponds to the Foldy-Woutheysen mean-spin operator.

-1 On the canonical transformation in classical and quantum mechanics

L.D. Faddeev, L.A. Khalfin, I.V. Komarov

In his famous book on the principles of quantum mechanics Dirac2 formulates (in §26) the following proposition: “. . . for a quantum dynamical system that has a classical analogue, unitary transformations in the quantum theory are the analogue of contact transformations in the classical theory.” No detailed description of this analogy is, however, given in Dirac’s book. In the following we intend to investigate this analogy in more detail.
