Abstract

In this paper, we investigate various dynamical properties of the Jaynes–Cummings (JC) model beyond the rotating wave approximation (RWA). We first show that in the absence of the RWA, the JC Hamiltonian can be transformed into an intensity-dependent Hamiltonian. Corrections produced by the counter-rotating terms (CRTs) appear in the first order as the intensity-dependent detuning, i.e. the dynamical Stark shift and in the second order as the intensity-dependent atom–field coupling. Then, by determining the atom–field wavefunction evolution, we study the effects of CRTs on various dynamical properties of the JC model, including the atomic population inversion, atomic dipole squeezing, atomic entropy squeezing, photon counting statistics, quadrature field squeezing, field entropy squeezing and quantum phase properties of the cavity field.

Interaction of a three-level atom Lambda, V, lader with a two-mode field beyond rotating wave approximation: Intermixed intensity-dependent coupling

N. Asili Firouzabadi, Mohammad Kazem Tavassoly

Recalling that the rotating wave approximation (RWA) is only valid in the weak coupling regimes, the purpose of this paper is to study the Hamiltonian dynamics describing the full quantum mechanical approach of the interaction between various configurations of three-level atoms Lambda, V and ladder distinctly with a two-mode radiation field, while the RWA is not considered; the counter-rotating terms (CRTs) are taken into account. Generally, the presence of CRTs in the Hamiltonian prevents one to achieve an analytical solution. Moreover, as we will show in the present work, using the perturbation theory, analytical solvable Hamiltonians can be successfully obtained. According to our calculations, the contribution of CRTs within the ordinary Hamiltonian is equivalent to the replacement of the constant detuning with a specific intensity dependent detuning in the first order, and the constant atom field coupling with a particular intensity dependent (f deformed) coupling in the second order of the associated perturbation parameter. Moreover, noticing that according to the initial expression of the Hamiltonian, each mode of the field interacts only with a specific pair of the allowed transitions of each type of the three-level atom, it is surprisingly observed that via applying the mentioned approach, the obtained intensity dependent coupling functions depend on both modes of the field, f(na,nb). In this way, it is seen that the CRTs are removed with the price of arriving at some intermixed intensity dependent atom field coupling functions of the two modes of the field. In this way, the obtained final Hamiltonians are analytically solvable. At last, by determining the time evolution of the atom field wave function, we study the effects of CRTs on a few nonclassical properties of the state of the system, including the atomic population inversion and photon statistics.

Effective Hamiltonian of the Jaynes–Cummings model beyond rotating-wave approximation*

Yifan Wang, Hong-Hao Yin, Ming-Yue Yang +2 more

The Jaynes–Cummings model with or without rotating-wave approximation plays a major role to study the interaction between atom and light. We investigate the Jaynes–Cummings model beyond the rotating-wave approximation. Treating the counter-rotating terms as periodic drivings, we solve the model in the extended Floquet space. It is found that the full energy spectrum folded in the quasi-energy bands can be described by an effective Hamiltonian derived in the high-frequency regime. In contrast to the Z 2 symmetry of the original model, the effective Hamiltonian bears an enlarged U(1) symmetry with a unique photon-dependent atom-light detuning and coupling strength. We further analyze the energy spectrum, eigenstate fidelity and mean photon number of the resultant polaritons, which are shown to be in accordance with the numerical simulations in the extended Floquet space up to an ultra-strong coupling regime and are not altered significantly for a finite atom-light detuning. Our results suggest that the effective model provides a good starting point to investigate the rich physics brought by counter-rotating terms in the frame of Floquet theory.

Vacuum Rabi Splitting and Dynamics of the Jaynes—Cummings Model for Arbitrary Coupling

Yuyu Zhang, Qing‐Hu Chen, Shi-Yao Zhu

The effects of counter-rotating terms (CRTs) on Rabi splitting and the dynamic evolution of atomic population in the Jaynes—Cummings model are studied with a coherent-state approach. When the coupling strength increases, the Rabi splitting becomes of multi-Rabi frequencies for the initial state of an excited atom in a vacuum field, and the collapses and revivals gradually disappear, and then reappear with quite good periodicity. Without the rotating-wave approximation (RWA), the initial excited state contains many eigenstates rather than two eigenstates under the RWA, which results in the multi-peak emission spectrum. An analytical approximate solution for the strong coupling regime is obtained, which gives a new oscillation frequency and explains the recovery of collapses and revivals due to the equal energy spacing.

Jaynes-Cummings model:Counter rotating effect on the vacuum Rabi splitting and atom-cavity dynamics

Yuyu Zhang, Qing‐Hu Chen, Shi-Yao Zhu

he effect of the counter-rotating terms in the Jaynes-Cummings model is investigated with an extended coherent-state approach. The counter-rotating terms greatly modify the vacuum Rabi splitting. Two peaks with different heights in the weak coupling regime and more than two peaks in the intermediate coupling regime are predicted. The collapses and revivals in the evolution of the atomic population inversion disappear in the intermediate coupling regime, but reappear in the strong coupling regime. This reappearance is similar to that under the rotating-wave approximation, attributed to the summation of periodic cosine functions of the evolution.

Ground State of Jaynes–Cummings Model: Comparison of Solutions with and without the Rotating-Wave Approximation

LI Xiao-hong, Kelin Wang, Tao Liu

The eigenenergy spectrum of the Jaynes–Cummings (JC) model with and without the rotating-wave approximation (RWA) is investigated. The numerical analysis indicates that the non-RWA spectrum can only be approximated by the RWA in the range of sufficiently small coupling constant and detuning. In other region, the counter-rotating terms remarkably change the nature of the RWA energy spectrum. A simple expression with high accuracy for ground eigenenergy and eigenvector for non-RWA is available. The ground eigenvector for non-RWA shows that the ground state is not a dark state and very different from that of RWA which is a dark state.

Dynamic of Two-Level System in the F-Deformed Jaynes-Cummings Model Beyond the Rotating-Wave Approximation

Mohsen Daeimohammad

The aim of this study is to investigate an effective two-level atom coupled to a twomode f-deformed cavity field with and without the rotating wave approximation. The first section discusses the theoretical model of the interaction between a two-mode cavity-field and an effective two-level atom within the framework of an f-DJCM without the rotating wave approximation. After that, we obtain the reduced density matrix of the atom with and without the rotating-wave approximation. Then, we have investigated the effect of the counterterm on temporal evolution of various nonclassical properties of the atom, i.e., atomic population inversion, atomic dipole squeezing and atom-field entanglement.Particularly, we compare the numerical result for three different values of the deformation parameter q (q=1, q=1.1, q=1) with and without the rotating wave approximation.
