Ferromagnetic polarons in a one-dimensionalt-Jmodel with next-nearest-neighbor hopping

P. Prelovek, A. Ramak, Igor Sega

In a t-J model on a chain, an additional next-nearest-neighbor hopping term destroys the complete spin-charge separation at J/t\ensuremath{\ll}1 and induces the formation of stable spin-polarized S>0 states. The properties of a single ferromagnetic polaron are investigated by the exact diagonalization of small systems and by the approximative treatment of an effective model, describing a spinless fermion coupled to the spin background. Both methods give consistent results on the critical ${\mathit{J}}_{\mathit{c}}$ for the polaron formation on the increase of the spin S and the polaron size with decreasing J. A very large enhancement of the polaron mass with increasing S is observed. Systems with a finite concentration of holes are also studied within the same framework. Analytical considerations indicate on the bound many-hole states and consequently on phase-separated regions in the phase diagram.

Nuclear-spin polaron formation: Anisotropy effects and quantum phase transition

Iris Kleinjohann, Andreas M. Fischer, Михаил Михайлович Глазов +1 more

We study theoretically the formation of the nuclear-spin polaron state in semiconductor nanosystems within the Lindblad equation approach. To this end, we derive a general Lindblad equation for the density operator that complies with the symmetry of the system Hamiltonian and address the nuclear-spin polaron formation for localized charge carriers subject to an arbitrarily anisotropic hyperfine interaction when optically cooling the nuclei. The steady-state solution of the density matrix for an anisotropic central spin model is presented as a function of the electron and nuclear spin bath temperature. Results for the electron-nuclear spin correlator as well as data for the nuclear spin distribution function serve as a measure of spin-entanglement. The features in both of them clearly indicate the formation of the nuclear polaron state at low temperatures where the crossover regime coincides with an enhancement of quantum fluctuations and agrees with the mean-field prediction of the critical temperature line. We can identify two distinct polaron states dependent upon the hyperfine anisotropy, which are separated by a quantum phase transition at the isotropic point. These states are reflected in the temporal spin autocorrelation functions accessible in experiment via spin-noise measurements.

Inducing spin-order with an impurity: phase diagram of the magnetic Bose polaron

S. I. Mistakidis, Georgios M. Koutentakis, Fabian Grusdt +2 more

Abstract We investigate the formation of magnetic Bose polaron, an impurity atom dressed by spin-wave excitations, in a one-dimensional spinor Bose gas. Within an effective potential model, the impurity is strongly confined by the host excitations which can even overcome the impurity-medium repulsion leading to a self-localized quasi-particle state. The phase diagram of the attractive and self-bound repulsive magnetic polaron, repulsive non-magnetic (Fröhlich-type) polaron and impurity-medium phase-separation regimes is explored with respect to the Rabi-coupling between the spin components, spin–spin interactions and impurity-medium coupling. The residue of such magnetic polarons decreases substantially in both strong attractive and repulsive branches with strong impurity-spin interactions, illustrating significant dressing of the impurity. The impurity can be used to probe and maneuver the spin polarization of the magnetic medium while suppressing ferromagnetic spin–spin correlations. It is shown that mean-field theory fails as the spinor gas approaches immiscibility since the generated spin-wave excitations are prominent. Our findings illustrate that impurities can be utilized to generate controllable spin–spin correlations and magnetic polaron states which can be realized with current cold atom setups.
