Systematic approximation method for the critical properties of lattice spin systems

James L. Monroe

We present an extension of past approximations such as the Bethe approximation where we look at generalized Husimi trees. In doing so we obtain a sequence of ever more accurate approximations. The sequence is very systematic, and sequences of as few as three points can be extrapolated to give critical temperature estimates to within 0.1% or better of the exact value for our test cases. In the case of the square lattice, Ising ferromagnet, where five levels of approximation are obtained, estimates within 0.003% are obtained. Critical exponents can also be approximated but with much less accuracy. Much of our attention is devoted to the critical line of the phase diagram of the antiferromagnetic Ising model on the square lattice, where our results compare very favorably with other approximations. The method is general enough to be applicable to any spin lattice system where the spin takes on a discrete set of values.

Local three-spin correlations in the free-fermion and planar Ising models

R. J. Baxter, T. C. Choy

Abstract A number of local three-spin correlations are calculated exactly for various related ferromagnetic two-dimensional solvable models in statistical mechanics. They are the square lattice free-fermion model, the equivalent checkerboard Ising model, and the anisotropic triangular, honeycomb and square lattice Ising models. The different results are all applications of a single unifying formula.

Exact results of a general spin-1 model on 2D decorated lattices

Xiang‐Dong Mi, Zhucheng Yang

By the decoration-iteration transformation, we find a general relation between interaction parameters of a general spin-1 model on any lattice with unique coordination number and on its decorated lattice. We obtain three exact phase transition points of the general spin-1 model on two-dimensional decorated lattices in terms of the exact results of the model on corresponding two-dimensional regular lattices, including the triangle, square, kagome and honeycomb lattices. We find the critical temperatures have no exact relation with the average coordination number and the type of coordination number for both the Ising model and the general spin-1 model.
