Magnetic impurity effect on the entanglement in the Ising model

Abstract

We study the effect of magnetic impurity on the entanglement in the three-site Ising model with both periodic and open boundary conditions. We obtain the analytic expressions for entanglement and show that the ground state and excited states of the system possess remarkable entanglement properties. We find that the entanglement between two specific spins for a given state depends on the sites where the impurities are located. We also discuss a relation of our results with some aspects of quantum phase transitions in the transverse Ising model.

ENTANGLEMENT IN THE XY SPIN CHAIN WITH NONUNIFORM EXTERNAL MAGNETIC FIELDS

JUNPENG CAO, Z. Z. Sun, YIN SUN +2 more

We study the entanglement in the three-site Heisenberg XY model with nonuniform external magnetic fields and obtain analytic expressions for the measures of entanglement in the system with both the periodic and the open boundary conditions. We show that both the ground state and the excited states of the system possess remarkable entanglement properties and the entanglement clearly depends on the magnitude of external fields. We obtain the pairwise thermal entanglement of the system. We also discuss the boundary effects on the entanglement.

Boundary and impurity effects on the entanglement of Heisenberg chains

Xiaoguang Wang

We study entanglement of a pair of qubits and the bipartite entanglement between the pair and the rest within open-ended Heisenberg XXX and XY models. The open boundary condition leads to strong oscillations of entanglements with a two-site period, and the two kinds of entanglements are 180 degrees out of phase with each other. The mean pairwise entanglement and ground-state energy per site in the XXX model are found to be proportional to each other. We study the effects of a single bulk impurity on entanglement, and find that there exist threshold values of the relative coupling strength between the impurity and its nearest neighbors, after which the impurity becomes pairwise entangled with its nearest neighbors.

Pairwise entanglement in the XX model with a magnetic impurity

Hong‐Chen Fu, A. I. Solomon, Xiaoguang Wang

For a three-qubit Heisenberg model in a uniform magnetic field, the pairwise thermal entanglement of any two sites is identical due to the exchange symmetry of sites. In this paper we consider the effect of a non-uniform magnetic field on the Heisenberg model, modelling a magnetic impurity on one site. Since pairwise entanglement is calculated by tracing out one of the three sites, the entanglement clearly depends on which site the impurity is located. When the impurity is located on the site which is traced out, that is, when it acts as an external field of the pair, the entanglement can be enhanced to the maximal value 1; while when the field acts on a site of the pair the corresponding concurrence can only be increased from 1/3 to 2/3.

ENTANGLEMENT MODULATION IN A SPIN CHAIN BY A LOCAL IMPURITY

Tony J. G. Apollaro, Alessandro Cuccoli, Andrea Fubini +2 more

We study the ground-state entanglement properties of an XX spin 1/2 chain in transverse field, in its quasi-long-ranged ordered phase, with a magnetic impurity, represented in terms of an additional transverse magnetic field located at one precise site. For such a system, we show that a control of the ground state entanglement can be achieved by acting on the impurity field. To demonstrate this possibility, we evaluate exactly the nearest neighbor and next-nearest neighbor concurrence in the presence of the impurity. It turns out that either an enhancement or a quenching of entanglement between selected spin pairs can be obtained by acting on the intensity of the impurity. For specific values of the magnetic field a spatial modulation of concurrence along the chain is also obtained.

Exact calculation of entanglement in a 19 -site two-dimensional spin system

Qing Yang Xu, Sabre Kais, Maxim Naumov +1 more

Using the trace minimization algorithm, we carried out an exact calculation of entanglement in a 19-site two-dimensional transverse Ising model. This model consists of a set of localized spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ particles in a two-dimensional triangular lattice coupled through exchange interaction $J$ and subject to an external magnetic field of strength $h$. We demonstrate, for such a class of two-dimensional magnetic systems, that entanglement can be controlled and tuned by varying the parameter $\ensuremath{\lambda}=h/J$ in the Hamiltonian and by introducing impurities into the systems. Examining the derivative of the concurrence as a function of $\ensuremath{\lambda}$ shows that the system exhibits a quantum phase transition at about ${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{c}=3.01$, a transition induced by quantum fluctuations at the absolute zero of temperature.

Impurity effect on entanglement asymptotic state in one-dimensional Ising system coupled to a dissipative environment

Gehad Sadiek

We consider a finite one-dimensional Ising spin chain under the influence of a dissipative Lindblad environment obeying the Born-Markovian constrain in presence of an external magnetic field with open boundary conditions. We study the effect of a single impurity, located at the terminal or center of the chain, on the time evolution and asymptotic steady state of the bipartite entanglement in the chain starting from a maximally entangled initial state. We found that the impurity has a significant effect on the bipartite entanglement of its nearest spins and can be used to tune their steady state value but has almost no noticeable impact on the far ones. At finite temperature, the thermal excitations suppress the dynamics of the system and reduce the value of the steady state and may completely wipe it out as the temperature is increased, which eliminates the effect of the impurity in that case.
