One-particle dispersion and spectral weights in the transverse Ising model

Abstract

The one-particle contribution to the dynamical structure factor is explored for the simple case of the transverse Ising model, using series expansion methods. The critical behavior of the spectral weight is found to conform with the general predictions of Sachdev. For the linear chain, exact results are obtained, and confirmed by correspondence with exactly known results for the correlation functions of the quantum $XY$ model in one dimension. In higher dimensions, series are calculated for the triangular, square, and simple cubic lattices, and numerical estimates for the critical exponents are found to agree with expectations, within errors.

Critical behavior of one-particle spectral weights in the transverse Ising model

Chris J. Hamer, J. Oitmaa, Zheng Weihong +1 more

We investigate the critical behavior of the spectral weight of a single quasiparticle, one of the key observables in experiment, for the particular case of the transverse Ising model. Series expansions are calculated for the linear chain and the square and simple cubic lattices. For the chain model, a conjectured exact result is discovered. For the square and simple cubic lattices, series analyses are used to estimate the critical exponents. The results agree with the general predictions of Sachdev [Quantum Phase Transitions (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, England, 1999)].

Series expansions for the zero-temperature transverse Ising model

L.G. Marland

Series expansions are presented for the magnetisation, susceptibility, magnetic field derivatives of the susceptibility and 'specific heat' of the zero-temperature transverse Ising model. Coefficients in these series have been calculated to tenth order in lambda 2 (where lambda is the transverse field) for the linear chain, to eighth order for the square lattice and to seventh order for the triangular lattice. These series yield estimates of the low-temperature critical exponents alpha ', beta ', gamma ' and Delta ' of the two- and three-dimensional Ising models. They provide good evidence for the symmetry of exponents above and below the critical point, e.g. gamma '= gamma .

Series expansions for the 3D transverse Ising model at T=0

Zheng Weihong, J. Oitmaa, Chris J. Hamer

Both weak-coupling and strong-coupling series expansions are calculated for the Ising model in a transverse field at zero temperature in three dimensions. Series are obtained for the ground-state energy, the magnetization, the susceptibility, and the energy gaps, on the simple cubic, the body-centred cubic and the face-centred cubic lattices. The analysis of the critical behaviour is consistent with the behaviour predicted by renormalization group theory for the four-dimensional simple Ising model. There is a remarkable degree of universality between all three lattices.

Correlation Index of the Ising Model with a Transverse Field

Akira Yanase

The critical behaviour of the correlation function of the Ising model with a transverse field, Δ , is investigated by means of the perturbation expansions. Exact expressions for the coefficients up to seventh order in J / k T ( J the exchange interaction) are given as functions of Δ / k T for the quadratic, triangular, simple cubic, body-centerd cubic and face-centerd cubic lattices. The universality of the critical index for the correlation length is concluded.

Quantum Critical Dynamics of the Random Transverse Field Ising Spin Chain

H. Rieger, Ferenc Iglói

Dynamical correlations of the spin and the energy density are investigated in the critical region of the random transverse-field Ising chain by numerically exact calculations in large finite systems (L ≤ 128). The spin-spin autocorrelation function is found to decay proportional to (log t) −2xm and (log t) −2xs m in the bulk and on the surface, respectively, with xm and x s m the bulk and surface magnetization exponents, respectively. On the other hand the critical energy-energy autocorrelation functions have a power law decay, which are characterized by novel critical exponents ηe ≈ 2.2 in the bulk and η s e ≈ 2.5 at the surface, respectively. The numerical results are compared with the predictions of a scaling theory. 05.50.+q, 64.60.Ak, 68.35.Rh Typeset using REVTEX 1 The asymptotic behavior of the time-dependent correlation functions for interacting many-body systems turned out a very difficult subject of theoretical research. Exact results in this field are scarce, one can mention the one-dimensional spin 1/2 XY-model [1] and the Ising chain in a transverse-field [2]. Both models can be mapped onto a system of non-interacting fermions, where the equal-position correlation functions are calculated by the Pfaffian method utilizing the theory of Töplitz determinants. It has recently become clear that quenched disorder has rather different effects on phase transitions in quantum systems [3] than on those thermally driven phase transitions. For example, in the Griffiths phase, which is situated at the disordered side of the critical point, the susceptibility has an essential singularity in classical systems, whereas in a quantum system the corresponding singularity is stronger, it is in a power law form. Quantum-critical properties of the long-range transverse-field Ising model from quantum Monte Carlo simulations

Jan Alexander Koziol, Anja Langheld, Sebastian C. Kapfer +1 more

The quantum-critical properties of the transverse-field Ising model with algebraically decaying interactions are investigated by means of stochastic series expansion quantum Monte Carlo, on both the one-dimensional linear chain and the two-dimensional square lattice. We extract the critical exponents $\ensuremath{\nu}$ and $\ensuremath{\beta}$ as a function of the decay exponent of the long-range interactions. For ferromagnetic Ising interactions, we resolve the limiting regimes known from field theory, ranging from the nearest-neighbor Ising to the long-range Gaussian universality classes, as well as the intermediate regime with continuously varying critical exponents. In the long-range Gaussian regime, we treat the effect of dangerous irrelevant variables on finite-size scaling forms. For antiferromagnetic and therefore competing Ising interactions, the stochastic series expansion algorithm displays growing autocorrelation times leading to a reduced performance. Nevertheless, our results are consistent with the nearest-neighbor Ising universality for all investigated interaction ranges both on the linear chain and the square lattice.
