Precursor of non-Fermi liquid behaviour in the one-dimensional periodic Anderson model with disorder

Feng Chen, Nicholas Kioussis

We have studied the one-dimensional periodic, symmetric Anderson model at half filling in the presence of disorder using finite-temperature quantum Monte Carlo techniques. We have examined for the first time the disorder both in hybridization between the local f-orbitals and the conduction electrons and in the local f-site energy, using a uniform distribution of width . The f-orbital local magnetic moment, the uniform magnetic susceptibility, the charge compressibility, and the nearest-neighbour magnetic correlation function have been calculated as a function of the disorder distribution width . We find that the disorder in hybridization has a dramatic effect on the low-temperature magnetic properties exhibiting a non-Fermi-liquid behaviour, and that for the range of temperature studied the magnetic susceptibility can be scaled by a power law with an exponent that is in agreement with recent experiments. On the other hand, disorder in the local f-orbital energy level does not show a nonFermi liquid behaviour.

Controlling disorder with periodically modulated interactions

Arkadiusz Kosior, Jan Major, Marcin Płodzień +1 more

We investigate the celebrated problem of the one-dimensional tight-binding model in the presence of disorder leading to Anderson localization from a novel perspective. A binary disorder is assumed to be created by immobile, heavy particles that affect the motion of the lighter, mobile species in the limit of no interaction between mobile particles. Fast, periodic modulations of interspecies interactions allow us to produce an effective model with small diagonal and large off-diagonal disorder previously unexplored in cold-atom experiments. We present an expression for an approximate Anderson localization length and verify the existence of the well-known, extended resonant mode. We also analyze the influence of nonzero next-nearest-neighbor hopping terms. We point out that periodic modulation of interaction allows disorder to work as a tunable bandpass filter for momenta.

Three-Dimensional Localized-Delocalized Anderson Transition in the Time Domain

Dominique Delande, L. Morales-Molina, Krzysztof Sacha

Systems which can spontaneously reveal periodic evolution are dubbed time crystals. This is in analogy with space crystals that display periodic behavior in configuration space. While space crystals are modeled with the help of space periodic potentials, crystalline phenomena in time can be modeled by periodically driven systems. Disorder in the periodic driving can lead to Anderson localization in time: the probability for detecting a system at a fixed point of configuration space becomes exponentially localized around a certain moment in time. We here show that a three-dimensional system exposed to a properly disordered pseudoperiodic driving may display a localized-delocalized Anderson transition in the time domain, in strong analogy with the usual three-dimensional Anderson transition in disordered systems. Such a transition could be experimentally observed with ultracold atomic gases.
