A series study of a mixed-spin ferrimagnetic Ising model

Abstract

We use both high- and low-temperature series expansions to investigate the phase diagram of a ferrimagnetic mixed-spin S = (1/2,1) Ising model on the square lattice, including an on-site anisotropy term on the S = 1 sites. Evidence is found for a first-order transition for large negative anisotropy, and hence for the existence of a tricritical point. The model, with nearest neighbour interactions only, does not appear to have a ferrimagnetic compensation point.

FERRIMAGNETISM IN TWO-DIMENSIONAL MIXED-SPIN ISING MODEL

B. Boechat, Rogério de Andrade Filgueiras, L. MARINS +2 more

We investigate the mixed-spin (spin-1/2 and spin-1) antiferromagnetic Ising model in two dimensions through a real-space renormalization group transformation. The model includes nearest and next-nearest neighbor interactions and is suitable to describe ferrimagnetic ordering. We present the finite-temperature phase diagram of the model. The presence of the second-neighbor bonds enlarge the ferrimagnetic phase. Our results do not indicate the existence of a tricritical point, contrary to previous effective-field calculations.

Tricritical phenomena in an Ising model with nearest- and next-nearest-neighbor interactions

Michael Plischke, D. Zobin

We report on the analysis of low and high temperature series for the Ising model with nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic and next-nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic interactions on the bcc lattice. The high temperature series are complete to β7, the low temperature series to u37. We determine the phase diagram, locate the tricritical point, and estimate the tricritical exponents. The tricritical exponents are only in fair agreement with the predictions of tricritical mean field theory.

The nonuniversal Ising model with nearest-neighbour interactions on a ferrimagnetic square lattice

Zbigniew Strycharski, Jerzy Cisło

The relation between the Ising models with nearest-neighbour interactions on a ferrimagnetic square lattice (with spins S= 1 / 2 and S>or=1) and the eight-vertex model is pointed out. The nonuniversal behaviour of such Ising models with S>or=2 is shown.

Exact phase diagram for the mixed spin-1/2 and spin-S Ising models on the square lattice

A. Dakhama, Mouhcine Azhari, Noureddine Benayad

We propose a new approach which permits us to obtain exact results for the mixed spin-1/2 and Spin- S ( S > 1/2) Ising models with single ion anisotropy Δ on the square lattice. We drive an explicit expression for the critical temperature for arbitrary values of S. We determine the exact phase diagrams for different values of S , and we show that there is no tricritical point. For S integer, there is no long range order when the anisotropy exceeds a critical value which is independent of S . Furthermore, the exact Ising transition temperature T C is always recovered, for any values of S, in the limit of Δ → − ∞ . These exact results are based on a conjecture which extend the analyticity of the n-spin-1/2 correlations functions (except at T = T C (Ising)) for any finite number n, to n → ∞ . This is confirmed by our calculations since our results are practically similar to those obtained by Monte Carlo simulations for S = 1, 2 and 3/2.

Phase diagram of the ferrimagnetic mixed-spin Blume-Capel model with four-spin and next-nearest neighbor interactions

Mouhcine Azhari, Noureddine Benayad, Majid Mouhib

A finite cluster approximation based on a single cluster theory is developed for a ferrimagnetic mixed spin-1/2 and spin-1 Blume-Capel model with four-spin interaction J 4 and next-nearest neighbor couplings J '. The state equations are derived for the two-dimensional square lattice and the phase diagram is explored. We found that the system can exhibits both critical and tricritical behavior according to appropriate values of J ', D and J 4 .

Phase Diagrams of Spin-3/2 Ising Model on a Square Lattice in Terms of Corner Transfer Matrix Renormalization Group Method

Norihiro Tsushima, Tsuyoshi Horiguchi

We obtain phase diagrams of a spin-3/2 Ising model on a square lattice by using a corner transfer matrix renormalization group method. We find that three phases appear in the phase diagrams; they are the ferromagnetic(FM) phase, the paramagnetic(PM) phase and a ferrimagnetic(FI) phase. It turns out that a tricritical point appears in a region of space spanned by parameters of coupling constants and the temperature. We estimate values of critical exponent ν and α at a transition temperature between the FM phase and the PM phase, at that between the FI phase and the FM phase, and also at that between the FI phase and the PM phase, by using the finite size scaling analysis.
