Abstract

On the basis of a histogram data analysis, phase transitions (PTs) in a three-dimensional diluted ferromagnetic 3- and 4-state Potts models are investigated. Systems with linear dimensions of L = 20–60 and spin concentrations of p = 1.00, 0.95, and 0.65 are studied. It is shown that the introduction of weak disorder ( p ∼ 0.95) into the system in the three-dimensional Potts model with q = 3 is sufficient to change a first-order phase transition to a second-order one, whereas, in the three-dimensional Potts model with q = 4, the change of a first-order phase transition to a second-order one occurs only in the presence of strong disorder ( p ∼ 0.65).

Computer Simulation of the Phase Transitions in Three-Dimensional Weakly Diluted Spin Systems

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Albert Babaevich Babaev

Abstract A computer simulation of the phase transitions in a three-dimensional weakly diluted five-state Potts model on a simple cubic lattice is performed. Calculations are carried out for spin systems with periodic boundary conditions at spin concentrations of p = 1.0 and p = 0.90. Systems with linear dimensions L × L × L = N, L = 10–80 are considered. The temperature dependences of the specific heat, susceptibility, and magnetization as a function of the linear dimensions of the studied systems are obtained. Using the fourth-order Binder cumulants and using histogram-data analysis, it is shown that the presence of weak disorder in the form of nonmagnetic impurities of the order c = 10% (c = 1 – p, p is the spin concentration) does not affect the phase transition of the first-order.

Investigation of Phase Transitions in the Site-Diluted Three-Dimensional Potts Model

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Albert Babaevich Babaev

The phase transitions and critical phenomena in three-dimensional (3D) site-diluted 3-and 4-state Potts models is investigated by Monte-Carlo method based on the highly efficient Wolff algorithm. The systems with linear sizesL=20-44 at spin concentrationsp=1.00, 0.95, 0.90, 0.80, 0.70, 0.65 are explored. The second-order phase transition is shown to occur in the three-dimensional 3-state Potts model with nonmagnetic impurities. In the 4-state Potts model there are observed first-order phase transitions in weakly diluted state, when the model is strongly diluted the first-order phase transitions change to the second-order one. On the basis of the finite-size scaling theory static critical exponents of specific heatα, susceptibilityγ, magnetizationβ, and exponent of correlation radiusνfor the systems under study are calculated.

Phase transitions in a two-dimensional weakly diluted 4-state Potts model on a hexagonal lattice

А. Б. Бабаев, Муртазаев А.К.

The Monte Carlo method is used to study phase transitions in a two-dimensional weakly diluted 4-state Potts model on a hexagonal lattice. Systems with linear dimensions L=21/336 at spin concentrations p=1.00, 0.90 are considered. The use of the fourth-order binder cumulants method and histogram data analysis showed that the introduction of nonmagnetic impurities has a stabilizing role in the implementation of the second-order phase transition in the Potts model under study on a hexagonal lattice. Keywords: Potts model, Monte Carlo method, thermodynamic parameters, disorder.

Phase transitions in a three-dimensional diluted Potts model with 4 spin states

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Albert Babaevich Babaev, G. Ya. Aznaurova

A Monte–Carlo method is used to study phase transitions and critical phenomena in a three-dimensional Potts model with 4 spin states and nonmagnetic impurities. Systems with linear sizes L=20–32 and spin concentrations p=1.00, 0.90, and 0.65 are studied. A fourth order Binder cumulant method is used to show that this model yields a second order phase transition for strong dilution with a spin concentration p=0.65, while the pure model (p=1.00) and the model with weak dilution (p=0.90) yield a first order phase transition. The static critical indices for the heat capacity α, susceptibility γ, magnetization β, and correlation radius ν are calculated using a finite-dimensional scaling theory.

Features of the phase transitions in the three-dimensional diluted potts model with number of spin states q = 3

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Albert Babaevich Babaev, G. Ya. Aznaurova

The effect of frozen disorder, implemented in the form of nonmagnetic impurities, on phase transitions in the three-dimensional Potts model with number of states q = 3 has was investigated by the Monte Carlo method, using the Wolf single-cluster algorithm. Systems with linear sizes L = 20–44 were considered at spin concentrations p = 1.00–0.65. The method of fourth-order Binder cumulants was used to demonstrate that a first-order phase transition is observed for the pure model ( p = 1.00) and a second-order phase transition occurs at concentrations p = 0.90, 0.80, 0.70, and 0.65.

Effect of Quenched Nonmagnetic Impurities on the Phase Transitions in a Three-Dimensional Potts Model

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Albert Babaevich Babaev

Abstract The influence of a weak disorder in the form of quenched nonmagnetic impurities on the phase transitions (PTs) in a three-dimensional 5-state Potts model is studied using the cluster Wolff algorithm of the Monte Carlo method. Systems with linear sizes L = 10–120 at spin concentrations p = 1.00 and 0.80 are considered. Using the fourth-order Binder cumulant method and histogram analysis, we show that the introduction of a weak quenched disorder (p = 0.80) in the form of nonmagnetic impurities changes a first-order PT into a second-order PT.
