Abstract

We propose schemes for the deterministic preparation of pure multipartite entangled vibrational states for $N$ ions trapped in a single-mode cavity. Through sequentially sending lasers with appropriate phases and amplitudes to drive the ions, two kinds of pure multipartite entangled continuous variable entangled states respectively suggested by van Loock and Braunstein [Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 3482 (2000)] and Pfister et al. [Phys. Rev. A 70, 020302(R) (2004)] can be unconditionally prepared with the help of cavity dissipation.

Deterministic generation of a pure continuous-variable entangled state for two ions trapped in a cavity

Gao‐xiang Li, Hua-Tang Tan, Shaoping Wu +1 more

Two different schemes are proposed for deterministically generating a pure motion-entangled state for two well-separated ions trapped in a cavity. The first one is that through adjusting the amplitudes and the frequencies of transverse lasers, the two ions trapped in a bimodal cavity can unconditionally evolve into a two-mode squeezed vacuum state with the aid of the cavity dissipation. The second one is based on the interactions of two appropriate series of the driving laser pulses with the two ions trapped in a single-mode cavity, it allows us to produce a two-mode squeezed vacuum state for the trapped ions' center-of-mass motion.

Simple schemes for preparation of multipartite entangled states of trapped ions

Feng Zhong

Three experimentally feasible schemes are proposed for generating multipartite entangled states of cold trapped ions.In the first scheme,a GHZ state can be simply synthesized in a single step. The second scheme is to prepare fully symmetric W states with two steps. The third scheme describes the sequential generation of linear cluster states. In addition,a method to create a larger cluster state was also presented by fuzing the end qubits of two smaller cluster states in order to decrease the distortion caused by decoherence, which can speed up the generation of large cluster states. The above schemes involve the collective interaction between multiple ions with the vibrational ground state and a large detuned laser. Compared with previous schemes, the above schemes have four advantages.Firstly, they do not require the vibrational mode of ions as memory.Secondly, they do not need to address the ions individually.Thirdly, they are free from the effects of phase fluctuation of laser field. Finally, they need less operations.

Two Schemes for Generation of Entanglement for Vibronic Collective States of Multiple Trapped Ions

Wen‐Xing Yang, Jiahua Li, Anshou Zheng

We propose two schemes to prepare entanglement for the vibronic collective states of multiple trapped ions. The first scheme aims to generating multipartite entanglement for vibrational modes of trapped ions, which only requires a single laser beam tuned to the ionic carrier frequency. Our scheme works in the mediated excitation regime, in which the corresponding Rabi frequency is equal to the trap frequency. Beyond their fundamental importance, these states may be of interest for experimental studies on decoherence since the present scheme operates in a fast way. The second scheme aims to preparing the continuous variable multimode maximally Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state. The distinct advantage is that the operation time is only limited by the available laser intensity, not by the inherent mechanisms such as off-resonant excitations. This makes it promising to obtain entanglement of multiple coherent and squeezing states with desired amplitudes in a reasonable time.

Programmable multi-mode entanglement via dissipative engineering in vibrating trapped ions

Yue Li, Y. Li, Xu Cheng +11 more

Generating multi-partite quantum entangled states amid dissipative environment is essential for advancing quantum simulation, metrology, and fundamental quantum research. Here, we use controlled dissipation as a resource and present an approach to generate programmable multimode entangled states in the vibrational modes of trapped ions, free of stringent requirements of initial state preparation. We experimentally demonstrate the generation of multimode squeezed states across two, three, and five modes out of initial thermal states by controlled couplings to dissipative internal spins. We characterize the output states by fidelity estimates and two-body correlations, confirming genuine multipartite entanglement using the van Loock-Furusawa inseparability criteria. This work outlines a generic path to create entangled nonclassical states with quantum harmonic oscillators, applicable for quantum information processing in continuous-variable quantum systems.

Preparation of arbitrary pure states of two-dimensional motion of a trapped ion

Shi‐Biao Zheng

A scheme is proposed to generate an arbitrary entangled state of the two-dimensional vibrational motion of a trapped ion. In the scheme the ion is excited by a sequence of laser pulses tuned to the appropriate vibrational sidebands. In order to generate a pure state with upper phonon numbers M and N in the X and Y directions, respectively, we require no more than $(M+2)(N+1)$ operations.

Preparation of Entangled State for Trappedions

Zhang Su-zhen

We present an alternative scheme to prepare entangled states of three trapped ions in thermal motion. We simultaneously drive the three ions with two laser beams with diferent frequencies. In this scheme the vibrational degrees of freedom are only regarded as intermediate states and the ions exchange energy via the mediation of the vibration of the vibrational mode in coupling processes. So our scheme might be more simple and feasible.
