Soliton and breather states of the quantum sine-Gordon model in light cone coordinates through the exact QIST method

Abstract

The quantum sine-Gordon equation in light cone coordinates is solved exactly through the quantum inverse scattering technique by finding a suitable gauge in which the model becomes ultralocal. The existence of breather bound states is shown and a consistent soliton representation is produced. Physical consequences are discussed along with a possible gauge invariance of the system at the quantum level.

On-shell renormalization of sine-Gordon by the quantum inverse scattering method

Francesco Beccarini, Claudio Conti

In the quantum inverse scattering method, the sine-Gordon model is solved on a lattice, and its continuum and infinite-volume limits become uniform only after the length of the box is rescaled. We show that this rescaling, supplemented by an on-shell condition, defines a renormalization scheme. The whole dependence on the cut-off is absorbed into a factor $Z_L$ multiplying the length of the box, with an exponent fixed by the scaling dimension of the vertex operator; neither the field nor the coupling $β$ is renormalized, no subtraction scale is introduced, and the mass parameter receives a finite renormalization, fixed by requiring that the lightest breather has the mass of the boson in the linearized theory. The soliton and breather masses follow from the eigenvalues of the monodromy operator as functions of parameters that do not run, and reduce to the classical and semiclassical results as $β\rightarrow0$. In particular, the mass ratios are produced directly from the regularized construction, while the relation between the lattice parameters and the physical scale is absorbed into $Z_L$ and never needs to be computed. The scheme is a reparameterization of the theory which makes explicit the interplay between integrability and renormalization. We compare it with Coleman's normal ordering and with conformal perturbation theory, and we argue that it extends to ultralocal integrable theories with a massive spectrum, possibly including asymptotically free models that admit an ultralocal lattice regularization.

Lattice approach to finite volume form-factors of the Massive Thirring (Sine-Gordon) model

Árpád Hegedűs

In this paper we demonstrate, that the light-cone lattice approach for the Massive-Thirring (sine-Gordon) model, through the quantum inverse scattering method, admits an appropriate framework for computing the finite volume form-factors of local operators of the model. In this work we compute the finite volume diagonal matrix elements of the U(1) conserved current in the pure soliton sector of the theory. Based on the systematic large volume expansion of our results, we conjecture an exact expression for the finite volume expectation values of local operators in pure soliton states. At large volume in leading order these expectation values have the same form as in purely elastic scattering theories, but exponentially small corrections differ from previous Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz conjectures of purely elastic scattering theories.

Notes about equivalence between Sine-Gordon theory (free fermion point) and the free fermion theory

S. V. Kryukov

The space of local integrals of motion for the Sine-Gordon theory (the free fermion point) and the theory of free fermions in the light cone coordinates is investigated. Some important differences between the spaces of local integrals of motion of these theories are obtained. The equivalence is broken on the level of the integrals of motion between bosonic and fermionic theories (in the free fermion point). The integrals of motion are constracted without Quantum Inverse Scattering Method (QISM)and the additional quantum integrals of motion are obtaned. So the QISM is not absolutely complete.

New nonultralocal quantum integrable models through gauge transformation

Anjan Kundu

One of the few schemes for obtaining an integrable nonultralocal quantum model is its possible generation from an ultralocal model by a suitable gauge transformation. Applying this scheme we discover two new nonultralocal models, which fit well into the braided Yang-Baxter relations ensuring their quantum integrability. Our first model is generated from a lattice Liouville-like system, while the second one which is an exact lattice version of the light-cone sine-Gordon is gauge transformed from a model, which gives also the quantum mKdV for a different gauge choice.

Soliton-breather approach to classical sine-Gordon thermodynamics

Kazuo Sasaki

Thermodynamics of the Boltzmann gas consisting of solitons, antisolitons, and breathers of the classical sine-Gordon system is studied by taking their interactions into account. A compact expression for the thermodynamic potential is obtained, which agrees with that obtained from the classical limit of the Bethe-ansatz formulation of the quantum sine-Gordon thermodynamics. We further find that the average number of breathers excited at low temperatures (m\ensuremath{\ll}T\ensuremath{\ll}M, where m and M are the phonon and the soliton masses, respectively) is half the total number of degrees of freedom of the system.
