The Stratonovich–Weyl correspondence for one-dimensional kinematical groups

Abstract

The Stratonovich–Weyl correspondence is a restatement of the Moyal quantization where the phase space is a manifold and where a group of transformations acts on it transitively. The first and most important step is to define a mapping from the manifold into the set of self-adjoint operators on a Hilbert space, under suitable conditions. This mapping is called a Stratonovich–Weyl kernel. The construction of this mapping is discussed on coadjoint orbits of the one-dimensional Galilei, Poincaré, and Newton–Hooke groups as well as the two-dimensional Euclidean group.

Relativistic quantum kinematics in the Moyal representation

José F. Cariñena, JoséM. Garcia-Bondia, Joseph C. Várilly

The authors obtain the phase-space quantisation for relativistic spinning particles. The main tool is what they call a 'Stratonovich-Weyl quantiser' which relates functions on phase space to operators on a suitable Hilbert space, and has the essential properties of covariance (under a group representation) and traciality. Their phase spaces are coadjoint orbits of the restricted Poincare group; they compute and explicitly coordinatise the orbits corresponding to massive particles, with or without spin. Some orbits correspond to unitary irreducible representations of the Poincare group; they show that there is a unique Stratonovich-Weyl quantiser from each of these phase spaces to operators on the corresponding representation spaces, and compute it explicitly.

Central extensions and realizations of one-dimensional Galilean systems and quantization

Miguel A. Martín, M. A. del Olmo

The unitary irreducible realizations (representations up to a factor) of the maximal non-trivial central extension of the (1 + 1) Galilei group, (1 + 1), are obtained via the linear unitary irreducible representations of its maximal non-trivial central extension, (1 + 1). As an application we construct the Stratonovich - Weyl correspondence, which allows Moyal quantization of classical systems, for two cases of great physical interest: a system in a external variable force field and a variable-mass system.

Moyal Formulation of Quantum Mechanics

Manuel Gadella

This is a review paper on the formulation of nonrelativistic Quantum Mechanics on Phase Space. In an overlook to the traditional approach, we present the basic concepts including the Weyl mapping, the Wigner function, the Moyal propagator and the Spectral projections. We discuss the advantages and the disadvantages of this formulation. We apply it to the study of quadratic Hamiltonians. The Stratonovich-Weyl correspondence is presented as the natural framework in which the theory can be extended to include spin, relativity and constraints. The theory of identical particles is also considered.

The Geometry of Quantum Teleportation in Phase Space

Jasel Berra-Montiel, Alberto Molgado, Mar Sánchez-Córdova

We formulate the standard quantum teleportation protocol within the framework of deformation quantization, employing the Stratonovich--Weyl (SW) correspondence and the associated star product on the coadjoint orbits of $SU(2)$. Each qubit is represented by a spherical phase space $S^2$ endowed with the Kirillov--Kostant--Souriau (KKS) symplectic structure. Within this setting, we explicitly construct the phase space representations of the entangled Bell resource, the controlled-NOT and Hadamard operators, the projective measurements, and the conditional Pauli corrections. We demonstrate how the quantum information initially encoded in the Wigner function for the input qubit is redistributed through bipartite and tripartite phase space correlations. Upon consideration of a conditional unitary transformation, the measurement outcome produces a Wigner function on the receiver's coadjoint orbit that is related to the input by an outcome-dependent rotation, which can subsequently be inverted through the implementation of an appropriate Pauli correction. The covariance of the SW correspondence provides a geometric interpretation of this process, in which quantum information is redistributed and reconstructed without transferring the underlying symplectic geometry. Our formulation can also be extended to study quantum teleportation in more general phase space geometries equipped with suitable star products.

Complex Weyl correspondence for a generalized diamond group

Benjamin Cahen

The generalized diamond group is the semi-direct product $G$ of the abelian group ${\mathbb R}^m$ by the $(2n+1)$-dimensional Heisenberg group $H_n$. We construct the generic representations of $G$ on the Fock space by extending those of $H_n$. Then we study the Berezin correspondence and the complex Weyl correspondence in connection with a generic representation $π$ of $G$, proving in particular that these correspondences are covariant with respect to $π$. We give also some explicit formulas for the Berezin symbols and the complex Weyl symbols of the representation operators $π(g)$ for $g\in G$. These results are applied to recover various formulas involving the Moyal product. Moreover, we relate $π$ to a coadjoint orbit of $G$ in the spirit of the Kirillov-Kostant method of orbits. This allows us to establish that the complex Weyl correspondence is a Stratonovich-Weyl correspondence for $π$.
