On the Lewis–Riesenfeld (Dodonov–Man’ko) invariant method

Julio Guerrero, Francisco F. López-Ruiz

We revise the Lewis–Riesenfeld invariant method for solving the quantum time-dependent harmonic oscillator in light of the quantum Arnold transformation previously introduced and its recent generalization to the quantum Arnold–Ermakov–Pinney transformation. We prove that both methods are equivalent and show the advantages of the quantum Arnold–Ermakov–Pinney transformation over the Lewis–Riesenfeld invariant method. We show that, in the quantum time-dependent and damped harmonic oscillator, the invariant proposed by Dodonov and Man’ko is more suitable, and provide some examples to illustrate it, focusing on the damped case.

Connection between classical and quantum harmonic oscillators

Kyoungho Cho, S P Kim

For a time-dependent harmonic oscillator we show a connection between the integrals of classical equations of motion and the Lewis-Riesenfeld (LR) invariant, and express the LR invariant in terms of the integrals of classical equations of motion. As applications we find the LR invariant for the Guth-Pi Hamiltonian and the asymptotic form of the LR invariant for a general time-dependent harmonic oscillator.

Exact Schrödinger wavefunctions ofN-coupled time-dependent harmonic oscillators

Min-Ho Lee

For N -coupled time-dependent harmonic oscillators with any couplings coordinates and momentum, we have derived the primary invariant and the generalized (Lewis and Riesenfeld) invariant represented in terms of the classical solution matrix of Hamilton's oscillator equation. Using the Lewis and Riesenfeld invariant method and exploiting the properties of the symplectic matrix we have obtained the exact Schrödinger wavefunctions for the oscillators.
