Bell's inequality for mixed states

Abstract

Violation of Bell's inequality for mixed states is considered. The authors show that a mixture of states that are macroscopically essentially equivalent may suppress the violation. Thus in general the inequality will not be violated by mixed states (except very special ones).

Maximal violation of Bell inequalities for mixed states

Samuel L. Braunstein, A. Mann, M. Revzen

We show that mixed states can produce maximal violations in the Bell inequality due to Clauser, Horne, Shimony, and Holt (CHSH). This follows from the degeneracy of the operator which is naturally associated with the Bell inequality (here called the Bell operator). We have calculated the form of all the eigenvalues for the generic CHSH Bell operator. Finally, we consider several examples which demonstrate the utility of studying the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the Bell operator.

Generalized Bell inequality for mixed states with variable constraints

Chang‐shui Yu, He‐Shan Song

In this paper, we present a generalized Bell inequality for mixed states. The distinct characteristic is that the inequality has variable bound depending on the decomposition of the density matrix. The inequality has been shown to be more refined than the previous Bell inequality. It is possible that a separable mixed state can violate the Bell inequality.

Bell’s inequalities versus teleportation: What is nonlocality?

Sandu Popescu

The nonlocality responsible for violations of Bell's inequalities is not equivalent to that used in teleportation, although they probably are two aspects of the same physical property. There are mixed states which do not violate any Bell type inequality, but still can be used for teleportation.

Bell-inequality violation with “thermal” radiation

Radim Filip, Miloslav Dušek, Jaromı́r Fiurášek +1 more

We demonstrate that radiation field in mixed thermal or phase-randomized coherent state can be entangled in such a way that Bell inequalities are violated. A counterintuitive result is obtained: a specific test reveals that maximal violation can be achieved with mixed states exhibiting large entropy.

Non-violations in Bell's Inequality

Ian Miller

The asserted violations of Bell's Inequality arise from the use of mixed frames of reference that violate the derivation of the inequality. Accordingly, entangled pairs may still follow local physics.
