Stochastic Resonance phenomena in qubit arrays

We discuss stochastic resonance–like effects in the context of coupled quantum spin systems. We focus here on an information–theoretic approach and analyze the steady state quantum correlations (entanglement) as well as the global correlations in the system when subject to different forms of local decoherence. In the presence of decay, it has been shown that the system displays quantum correlations only when the noise strength is above a certain threshold. We extend this result to the case of a Heisenberg XY Z exchange interaction and revise and clarify the mechanisms underlying this behaviour. In the presence of pure dephasing, we show that the system always remains separable in the steady state. When both types of noise are present, we show that the system can still exhibit entanglement for long times, provided that the pure dephasing rate is not too large.

Pure Dephasing of Light-Matter Systems in the Ultrastrong and Deep-Strong Coupling Regimes

Alberto Mercurio, Shilan Abo, Fabio Mauceri +5 more

Pure dephasing originates from the nondissipative information exchange between quantum systems and environments, and plays a key role in both spectroscopy and quantum information technology. Often pure dephasing constitutes the main mechanism of decay of quantum correlations. Here we investigate how pure dephasing of one of the components of a hybrid quantum system affects the dephasing rate of the system transitions. We find that, in turn, the interaction, in the case of a light-matter system, can significantly affect the form of the stochastic perturbation describing the dephasing of a subsystem, depending on the adopted gauge. Neglecting this issue can lead to wrong and unphysical results when the interaction becomes comparable to the bare resonance frequencies of subsystems, which correspond to the ultrastrong and deep-strong coupling regimes. We present results for two prototypical models of cavity quantun electrodynamics: the quantum Rabi and the Hopfield model.

Quantum algorithm for dephasing of coupled systems: decoupling and IQP duality

Sabrina Yue Wang, Raul A. Santos

Noise and decoherence are ubiquitous in the dynamics of quantum systems coupled to an external environment. In the regime where environmental correlations decay rapidly, the evolution of a subsytem is well described by a Lindblad quantum master equation. In this work, we introduce a quantum algorithm for simulating unital Lindbladian dynamics by sampling unitary quantum channels without extra ancillas. Using ancillary qubits we show that this algorithm allows approximating general Lindbladians as well. For interacting dephasing Lindbladians coupling two subsystems, we develop a decoupling scheme that reduces the circuit complexity of the simulation. This is achieved by sampling from a time-correlated probability distribution - determined by the evolution of one subsystem, which specifies the stochastic circuit implemented on the complementary subsystem. We demonstrate our approach by studying a model of bosons coupled to fermions via dephasing, which naturally arises from anharmonic effects in an electron-phonon system coupled to a bath. Our method enables tracing out the bosonic degrees of freedom, reducing part of the dynamics to sampling an IQP circuit. The sampled bitstrings then define a corresponding fermionic problem, which in the non-interacting case can be solved efficiently classically. We comment on the computational complexity of this class of dissipative problems, using the known fact that sampling from IQP circuits is believed to be difficult classically.
