RIGOROUS RESULTS ON THE STRONGLY CORRELATED ELECTRON SYSTEMS BY THE SPIN-REFLECTION-POSITIVITY METHOD

Abstract

In this talk, we shall briefly review some results on the strongly correlated electron systems, derived recently by applying Lieb's spin-reflection-positivity method. To explain the basic ideas of this method to a wide audience, we emphasize the important role played by Marshall's rule in studying the many-body systems.

EXACT RESULTS IN STRONGLY CORRELATED ELECTRONS — SPIN-REFLECTION POSITIVITY AND THE PERRON-FROBENIUS THEOREM

Takashi Yanagisawa, Yukihiro Shimoi

This article is devoted to discuss two exact arguments in strongly-correlated electron systems: one is the method of reflection positivity in the spin space and the other is the Perron-Frobenius theorem in matrix theory. For several specific systems, we can show that the ground state is unique and we can predict the total spin of the ground state.

SYMMETRIES IN THE PHYSICS OF STRONGLY CORRELATED ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS

Mancini, Avella

Strongly correlated electron systems require the development of new theoretical schemes in order to describe their unusual and unexpected properties. The usual perturbation schemes are inadequate and new concepts must be introduced. In our scheme of calculations, the Composite Operator Method is possible to recover through a self-consistent calculation, a series of fundamental symmetries by choosing a suitable Hilbert space.

Strongly Correlated Electron Systems: Spin-Reflection Positivity and Some Rigorous Results

Shun-Qing Shen

Theory of spin-reflection positivity developed in recent years is reviewed. This theory makes use of symmetries in an electron system and theory of matrix to investigate the ground state properties. Existences of anti- and ferromagnetic long-range orders in itinerant electron systems, and of off-diagonal long-range order are two successful applications of the theory. In this article, the author attempt to summarize exact results proved by utilizing this theory and related topics. First a general theory and basic theorems are introduced. Second, based on the band structures of conduction electrons, existences of a singlet state with strongly antiferromagnetic correlation, a state with both anti- and ferromagnetic long-range orders, and a fully saturated ferromagnetic state are proved. The theory is applied to several of the main theoretical models for strongly correlated electron systems, such as the Heisenberg model, the Hubbard model, the Anderson model, the single- and multichannel Kondo model, and the generalized Hubbard model, and a series of rigorous results are found in these models. Third, it is proved that off-diagonal long-range order and charge-density wave exist in the ground states of the attractive Hubbard model and the generalized Hubbard model. A relation between pseudospin symmetry and the uniform density theorem is introduced. Fourth, the theory is applied successfully to explain experimental observations of oscillatory interlayer magnetic coupling in ultrathin magnetic films. Finally several unsolved problems are discussed. All results introduced in this article are mathematically exact.

Charged and spin-excitation gaps in half-filled strongly correlated electron systems: A rigorous result

Guang-Shan Tian

By exploiting the particle-hole symmetries of the Hubbard model, the periodic Anderson model, and the Kondo lattice model at half-filling and by applying a generalized version of Lieb's spin-reflection positivity method, we show that the charged gaps of these models are always larger than their spin-excitation gaps. This theorem confirms the previous results derived by either the variational approach or the density-matrix renormalization-group approach.
