Abstract

We report on the generation of continuous-variable hyperentanglement of polarization and orbital angular momentum with a type II optical parametric oscillator. By compensating for the astigmatism between spatial modes, we produce an entangled pair of Hermite-Gauss beams. From correlations measurements, we verify the existence of continuous-variable hyperentanglement by the general entanglement criterion as well as by the continuous-variable version of the Peres-Horodecki criterion visualized on an equivalent Poincaré sphere.

Continuous Variable Entanglement and Squeezing of Orbital Angular Momentum States

Mikael Lassen, Gerd Leuchs, Ulrik L. Andersen

We report the first experimental characterization of the first-order continuous variable orbital angular momentum states. Using a spatially nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator (OPO) we produce quadrature entanglement between the two first-order Laguerre-Gauss modes. The family of orbital angular momentum modes is mapped on an orbital Poincaré sphere, where the mode's position on the sphere is spanned by the three orbital parameters. Using a nondegenerate OPO we produce squeezing of these parameters, and as an illustration, we reconstruct the "cigar-shaped" uncertainty volume on the orbital Poincaré sphere.

Continuous-Variable Hyperentanglement in a Parametric Oscillator with Orbital Angular Momentum

B. Coutinho dos Santos, K. Dechoum, Antonio Zelaquett Khoury

We describe continuous-variable hyperentanglement in polarization and orbital angular momentum modes of an optical parametric oscillator. The quantum stochastic equations for the multimode parametric interaction are derived and solved allowing for calculation of the quadrature noise spectra that characterize continuous-variable entanglement. As a main result, we predict simultaneous entanglement between different combinations of amplitude and phase quadratures of the interacting modes. We also propose experimental setups to access the different kinds of entanglement.

Continuous variable spin–orbit total angular momentum entanglement on the higher-order Poincaré sphere

Hui Guo, Na Liu, Hengxin Sun +2 more

Optical spin-orbit coupling is an important phenomenon and has fruitful applications. Here, we investigate the spin-orbit total angular momentum entanglement in the optical parametric downconversion process. Four pairs of entangled vector vortex modes are experimentally generated directly using a dispersion- and astigmatism-compensated single optical parametric oscillator, and for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, the spin-orbit quantum states are characterized on the quantum higher-order Poincaré sphere, and the relationship of spin-orbit total angular momentum Stokes entanglement is demonstrated. These states have potential applications in high-dimensional quantum communication and multiparameter measurement.

Generation of continuous-variable high-dimensional entanglement with three degrees of freedom and multiplexing quantum dense coding

Hui Guo, Na Liu, Li Zhi +4 more

High-dimensional entanglement is a critical foundation for the growing demand for information capacity to implement the high-capacity quantum task. Here, we report continuous-variable high-dimensional entanglement with three degrees of freedom (frequency, polarization, and orbital angular momentum) directly generated with a single type-II optical parametric oscillator (OPO) cavity. By compensating both for dispersion in frequency modes and astigmatism in higher-order transverse modes, the OPO is capable of oscillating simultaneously and outputting thousands of entanglement pairs. The three degrees of freedom high-dimensional entanglement are verified simultaneously possessing frequency comb, spin, and orbital angular momentum entanglement via 14 pairs of Hermite–Gaussian mode correlations measurement. Then, the “space-frequency” multiplexing quantum dense coding communication is also demonstrated by using the entanglement resource. It shows the great superiority of high-dimensional entanglement in implementing the high-capacity quantum task. Apart from an increased channel capacity, it is possible to conduct deterministic high-dimensional quantum protocols, quantum imaging, and especially quantum computing.
