Abstract

We propose a scheme for measuring the mean value of quadrature moments of one- and two-mode cavity fields by considering the resonant atom–cavity interaction in the presence of strong classical driving fields. With the aid of strong classical fields, it is easy to realize the quadrature operators for cavity fields, which are correlated to the internal state of the two-level atom. It is shown that the mean value of quadrature moments of cavity fields is determined by the time derivative of the population of the internal state at the initial interaction time. The scheme can be directly used to test quantum entanglement of two-mode cavity fields.

Scheme for direct measurement of the Wigner characteristic function in cavity QED

Xu‐Bo Zou, K. Pahlke, Wolfgang M. Mathis

We propose a simple scheme for the reconstruction of the single-mode cavity field by considering the resonant atom-cavity interaction in the presence of a strong classical field. With the aid of the strong classical field, it is easy to realize the displacement operator for the cavity field correlated to the internal state of the atom. It is shown that the measurement of the population of the lower internal state directly yields the Wigner characteristic function of the cavity field.

Scheme for direct measurement of Wigner function in two-mode cavity QED driven by classical fields

Huai‐Zhi Wu, Zhen‐Biao Yang, Shi‐Biao Zheng

We propose a scheme for the direct measurement of Wigner function in two-mode cavity QED. The atoms are sent to resonantly interact with two orthogonally polarized cavity modes in the presence of strong classical field. The probability of measuring the atom in the ground state directly gives the useful information of the cavity field. This method can be used for quantum non-demolition measurement of the photon number.

Instantaneous measurement of field quadrature moments and entanglement

Pavel Lougovski, HERBERT WALTHER, E. Solano

We present a method of measuring expectation values of quadrature moments of a multimode field through two-level probe "homodyning". Our approach is based on an integral transform formalism of measurable probe observables, where analytically derived kernels unravel efficiently the required field information at zero interaction time, minimizing decoherence effects. The proposed scheme is suitable for fields that, while inaccessible to a direct measurement, enjoy one and two-photon Jaynes-Cummings interactions with a two-level probe, like spin, phonon, or cavity fields. Available data from previous experiments are used to confirm our predictions.

Schemes for realizing frequency up- and down-conversions in two-mode cavity QED

Xu‐Bo Zou, Yuli Dong, Guangcang Guo

We propose experimental schemes for realizing frequency up- and down-conversion in two-mode cavity QED by considering the atom-cavity interaction in the presence of a strong driving classical field. In contrast to the recent paper based on dispersive atom-cavity interaction [Serra et al., Phys. Rev. A 71, 045802 (2005)], our scheme is based on resonant interaction of the cavity modes with a single driven three-level atom, so that the quantum dynamics operates at a high speed, which is important in view of decoherence. It is shown that, with the help of a strong driving classical field, frequency up- and down-conversion operations can be realized by initially preparing the atom in a certain state.

Entanglement, Decoherence and Correlations in a Strongly Driven Jaynes-Cummings System

Federico Casagrande, ALFREDO LULLI

We consider the resonant interaction of a cavity mode with a two-level atom that is driven by a coherent field while it crosses the cavity. Starting from the cavity field in a coherent state, we show that the state of the system can reach the maximum entanglement after a unitary evolution for long enough interaction times. Also we illustrate how the generation of cavity field superposition states can allow, in the open system dynamics, the observation of their decoherence in atomic correlation measurements, for any initial cavity field state, and even under the combined effects of dissipation, thermal noise, and atomic pumping.

Efficient generation of Bell-cat states in remote cavities

Ying Zhang

In the context of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED),a potential scheme is proposed to generate entangled coherent states. The scheme includes twice interactions of two-level atoms with cavities. In the first interaction, two atoms are sent into a microwave cavity with the large detuning respectively. And then the second interaction is that the two atoms enter another microwave cavity and are driven by a resonant classical field meantime. When we choose the proper interaction time and make measurement on the two atoms, the two microwave cavity mode fields are determinatively entangled. In addition,it is easy to generalize the scheme to multi-cavity and multi-atom.
