Square-well potential by an algebraic approach

Abstract

The spectrum-generating algebra for the problem of a particle in a potential well is shown to be su(1,1). Both the infinitely deep and finite square wells are considered. The generators can also be derived via a systematic procedure for determining the time-dependent constants of the motion. The coherent states are explicitly constructed.

Exact and approximate energy spectrum for the finite square well and related potentials

O. F. de Alcantara Bonfim, David J. Griffiths

We investigate the problem of a quantum particle in a one-dimensional finite square well. In the standard approach the allowed energies are determined implicitly as the solutions to a transcendental equation. We obtain the spectrum analytically as the solution to a pair of parametric equations and algebraically using a remarkably accurate approximation to the cosine function. The approach is also applied to a variety of other quantum wells.

Nonlinear Spectrum and Generating Algebra for Infinitely Deep Square Well Potential and New Coherent State

Ni Zhi

Using the Hamiltonian of symmetrical one dimersional infinitely deep square well potential and natural operators,we obtain its nonlinear spectrum and generating algebra, and get a class of new nonlinear coherent states on the basis of the nonlinear algebra obfained. These coherent states are of temporal stability, and can be regarded as the eigenstates of the lower operator with the eigenvalues in an operator field and as the rotational states of the generalized minimal uncertainly states as well.

Coherent states for one-dimensional infinitely deep square potential well

NI Zhi-xiang

The energy spectrum-generating algebra for one-dimensional infinitely deep square potential well is constructed by using an additional phase variable, and a class of sets of the annihilation-operator coherent states are introduced. These sets are strongly continuous in their parameter on the whole complex plane and satisfy the overcompleteness relation in a curved parameter space with rotational symmetry.

A realization of the dynamical group for the square-well potential and its coherent states

R. Lemus, Alejandro Frank

A realization of the ladder operators for the infinitely deep well potential is presented. Both the asymmetric and symmetric wells are discussed. It is shown that these operators satisfy the commutation relations for the SU (1, 1) group. Closed analytical expressions for the matrix elements of some relevant functions are obtained. Perelomov coherent states for this system are explicitly constructed. The behaviour of the dispersion relation and the time evolution for such states are examined.

The hidden symmetry for a quantum system with an infinitely deep square-well potential

Shi‐Hai Dong, Zhong-Qi Ma

An infinitely deep square-well potential is studied by an SU(1,1) algebra, not by an SO(2) algebra. The creation and annihilation operators for the system are obtained from the factorization method. Closed analytical expressions for the matrix elements of some relevant functions are evaluated.

Continuous limit of the square well problem in quantum mechanics

Matheus D. Moro, Thiago T. Tsutsui, Antonio S. M. de Castro +1 more

The free-particle and square-well potentials are two of the most emblematic problems in quantum mechanics, illustrating essential concepts such as matter waves, energy quantization, and bound states. It is therefore natural to consider how the free-particle solutions emerge from the square well as the width approaches infinity. In this work, we present a systematic procedure to demonstrate this transition by applying a Fourier transform to the wave equation.
