Stepwise phase modulation of atoms coupled to a quasicontinuum of states in a cavity

Ilkka Juhani Tittonen, Stig Stenholm, Igor Jex

We study the interaction of a small number of resonant two-level atoms in a cavity coupled to a quasi-continuum of cavity modes. During the interaction we induce externally a phase step to one of the atoms. As a result an enhancement in the photon emission to the field is observed. The phase step is obtained by a pulse which causes the atom to be off-resonance for a short time interval. The effect is strongest in cases where the number of atoms is small. The enhancement is not restricted to a small parameter range but should be observable in many systems even though the φ phase shift gives the best enhancement.

Evolution of Two Non-identical Two-Level Atoms in Two-Mode Cavity Fields

Ming Zhang, Wang Wengang, Hong‐Yi Dai +1 more

In this paper, we investigate the evolution of two non-identical two-level atoms in two-mode cavity fields. We demonstrate the death and rebirth effect of entanglement for two non-identical two-level atoms under some initial conditions. It is also exemplified that entangled states of two nonidentical two-level atoms can be generated by entangled two-mode cavity fields. This research can be considered as a first step to further investigate the problem of manipulating two nonidentical two-level atoms in two-mode cavity fields.

One-step engineering many-atom NOON state

Chuang Li, Elijah M. Sampuli, Jie Song +2 more

We propose a one-step scheme for driving many atoms into a NOON state. In this scheme, two cavities are coupled to each other through the photon-hopping interaction and each cavity contains N four-level atoms. The 2 N atoms are driven into a NOON state via a phase-shift which depends on the collective atomic excitations. Interestingly, the time of generating the NOON state is independent of the atom number, i.e., it is unchanged with the increasing of the atom number. Also, our scheme is insensitive to cavity decay and can effectively suppress atomic spontaneous emission.
