APPLICATIONS OF DEGENERATE FOUR-WAVE MIXING TO HIGH RESOLUTION MOLECULAR SPECTROSCOPY AT 10.6 µm

Abstract

CW phase conjugation on the ν3 vibrational bands of SF6 and OsO4 is demonstrated as a means of investigation in high resolution spectroscopy through resonant degenerate four-wave mixing at 10.6 µm by using a stable low power CO2 laser operating on the P(18), P(16), P(12) lines respectively. Peak reflectivities of 3.8 10-3 are measured in SF6. They only reach 0.34 10-3 in OsO4. Phase conjugate spectra with 2 MHz, namely sub-Doppler resolutions, are compared with simultaneous recordings of the saturated-absorption spectra over a 80 MHz bandwidth. The saturation splitting encountered on a one-photon transition in SF6 is also analysed in terms of pressure broadening and pump imbalance.

Doppler-free continuous-wave phase-conjugate spectrum of SF_6 by resonant degenerate four-wave mixing at 106 μm

A phase-conjugate signal has been obtained in SF(6) with a peak reflectivity of 1.2 x 10(-3) by using a cw CO(2) laser operating on the P(16) line. The degenerate four-wave mixing spectrum exhibits a Doppler-free structure with 2-MHz resolution. When the reflectivity spectrum is compared with the saturated-absorption spectrum, matching peaks in the reflectivity spectrum are found over an 80-MHz bandwidth.

Phase-conjugate characteristics of SF 6 by degenerate four-wave mixing at 10.6 μm

Degenerate-four-wave mixing (DFWM) is an important technique for the generation of phase-conjugate wave, to which much attention has been paid. In this paper. a tunalile CW CO2 1.aser is used as the pump sourse and gaseous SF6 as the nonlinear medium, the dependence of reflectivity of phase-conjugate wave generated by DFWM on the pump intensity, the pressure in SF6, the angle between the pump and probe beams as welt as the potarization of the optical fields etc, is investigated experimentatty and exptained theoretically. Peak reftectivity of 2.1x101 is abtained at P=4 Torr in the gaseous SF6. In the Doppler-free phase-conjugate spectrum of SF6 five absorption dips are observed and the spectral resolving power is measured to be about 3 MHz.

Doppler–free CW phase–conjugate spectrum of SF6 by degenerate four-wane mixing at 10.6 μm

Jean-Luc Boulnois, Philippe Aubourg, Govind Prasad Agrawal

Recently phase conjugation at 10.6 μm has drawn considerable attention. Various nonlinear materials such as SF6, Co2, Ge, HgCdTe and doped KCI have been used to generate the conjugate wave through resonant degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM). In most of the previous work, pulsed CO2 lasers were used.

Saturation splitting of phase-conjugate line through resonant degenerate four-wave mixing in SF6

Using the isolated P(33)A 12 one-photon resonance in SF6 the degenerate four-wave mixing spectrum is shown to exhibit line splitting below a critical pressure. The dependence of this saturation splitting on the gas pressure and the pump intensity is quantitatively studied.

Spectral dependences of reflection in a degenerate four-wave interaction of infrared laser radiation in resonant SF6, CF3Br, and CD4gases

Sergey S. Alimpiev, V S Nersisyan, С. М. Никифоров +1 more

Spectral dependences of reflection in a degenerate four-wave interaction of CO2 laser radiation in resonant SF6, CF3Br, and CD4 gases were investigated with a spectral resolution of 5 × 10 −2 cm − 1. A structure associated with one- and two-photon vibrational transitions in the gases was observed in the spectra. High reflection coefficients (of some tens of percent) were achieved by optimizing the phase conjugation conditions whilst maintaining the resonant character of the reflection.

CO 2 LASER DIFFRACTION BY MULTIWAVE MIXING IN SF

J. W. R. Tabosa, Claudio Lenz Cesar, M. Ducloy +1 more

Spatially phase matched one photon resonant and degenerate multiwave mixing [1, 2] in a diffraction configuration has been done in SF6 with a CW CO2 laser. Resonance was obtained with the 60MHz tunable 10.6μm P(18) line of a CO2 laser overlapping the A 2 1 P(33) line of SF6 which has[3]: Doppler linewidth of 29MHz, a collision broadening of 17MHz/Torr and a saturation intensity of 8W/cm Torr2. The experiments were done according to figure 1. A process depending on χ(2n+1) may interpreted as the absorption of n photons from the beam IF, along with n photons emitted in beam IP and then the absorption of one photon from IB to be emitted as the diffracted beam ID, all events at the same frequency ω. Accordingly, the nonlinear polarization will be phase matched for the direction K → D + n ( K → F − K → P ).
