Quantum Statistics of One-Photon Interaction of Light with Matter

Abstract

The time development of the coherence properties of a beam of light interacting linearly with a gas of two-level atoms maintained at fixed population levels is determined. For initially coherent light, the results obtained differ from those of a previous theory.

Quantum statistics of light after one-photon interaction with matter

Salvatore Carusotto

The time development of the normally ordered generating functional of a light beam interacting linearly with a collection of two-level atoms is determined exactly. Rigorous conclusions on changes of the statistical properties of the beam are drawn. It is shown that the field after the interaction appears to be the superposition of a thermal field and of a field statistically similar to the initial one.

Statistical Properties of Light Interacting with Two-Level Atoms

T. H. Cheung

The quantum-statistical properties of light interacting with a collection of two-level atoms are investigated without making the rotating-wave approximation. Corrections to the steady-state mean photon number, the second-order coherence properties of light and behavior of the average light field are obtained.

Quantum statistics of light after two-photon absorption and emission processest

Salvatore Carusotto

Two-photon absorption and emission for a collection of two level atoms from a single mode beam of light are considered and the statistical proper- ties of the field after the interaction are investigated without placing any restriction of the population of the atomic levels . The dynamical behaviour of the field is described by assuming the atomic levels maintained with a nearly fixed popula- tion distribution . By applying iteration methods the time development for the density operator of the field is written and an expression for the coherent component is obtained . This component appears to be present only when there is a coherent component in the field before the interaction . The statistical properties of the field after the interaction, when the mean photon number is large initially, are then discussed and explicit calculations are carried out for some special cases of initial fields . Finally, it is shown that two-photon spontaneous emission field can be expressed as a superposition of chaotic fields .

Multiphoton model for the interaction of single-mode squeezed-state light with a two-level atom

Shaozheng Jin

Multiphoton interaction of single-mode squeezed-state light and a two-level atom is considered based on the K-photon Jaynes–Cummings model. Time evolution of quantum fluctuation and photon statistical properties of the initial squeezing light are discussed. It is found that through interaction with a two-level atom, larger squeezing levels cannot be achieved in one-photon or multiphoton processes. For photon antibunching behavior of the light field, it is shown that a smaller initial squeezing level and an appropriately larger coherent part of the initial average photon number of the radiation field favor the generation of this nonclassical behavior, especially in the lower-order interaction processes.

The quantum dynamics of two-mode SU(1,1) coherent state interacting with a four-level atom

Xie Fang-sen

The state function of the two-mode SU(1,1) coherent states field interacting with a four-level atom is derived by means of quantum theory. It is studied that the two-mode intensity correlation function, the Cauchy-Schwartz inequality and the second-order coherence properties for each mode of the light field in the system of the two-mode SU(1,1) coherent states field interacting with four-level atom.It is discussed that the influence of the coupling coefficient between the light field and atom and the initial intensity of the light field on file quantum dynamics of the light field. The results of the studies indicate that the statistic properties of the photon depend on the initial state of the system, the correlation of the two-mode of light is both positive and non-classical,the photon anti-bunching of the first mode appear at all time, and the photon bunching and anti-bunching of the second mode appear alternately.
