Comparison of effective particle-hole and particle-particle forces in the random-phase approximation

Abstract

The possibility of "universal" effective forces for the particle-hole and particle-particle problem in the renormalized random-phase approximation approach is analyzed using Green's function theory. A numerical comparison in the lead region for a simple semiphenomenological force and a more microscopic force deduced from the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction is given and discussed.

Self-consistent random-phase approximation for three-body forces

M. K. Weigel, J. Winter

A self-consistent RPA method is presented for N-particle Fermi systems with two- and three-body forces. The RPA equations for the generalised 'particle-hole' and 'particle-particle' problem, respectively, are derived by minimising the mean excitation energies defined analogously to mean single-particle energies. This corresponds to the equation-of-motion method. For the generalised 'one-particle/two-particle-one-hole problem' the Green-function scheme is used in order to establish a connection between two possible ways of treating the problem. It is shown that the RPA Hamiltonians have almost the same structure as in the case of pure two-body forces, and that Rowe's general RPA equations are contained as a special case of the treatment.

Equations for one- and two-particle density matrices in Green's function method. Comparison with the random phase approximation

S. P. Kamerdzhiev

Green's function method is applied to the description of nuclear levels-- superposition of the 1p1h and 2p2h configurations. Irreducible amplitudes for the transitions 1p1h yields 1p1h, 1p1h yields 2p2h, 2p2h yields 1p1h, 2p2h yields 2p2h are introduced to obtain the exact equations for eigerfunctions and eigenvalues of the problem-. The renormalization of the equations made it possible to consider all the processes near the Fermi level using the phenomenological effective amplitudes of quasipanticle interaction. The comparison is made with the generalized random-phase method. The approximations are discussed leading in the Green's function method to the equations for one- and two-particle density matrices as the equations obtained in the random--phase approximation. Short-range correlations in nuclear matter using Green's functions within a discrete pole approximation

Dewulf, Yves, Van Neck, Dimitri, Michel Waroquier

We treat short-range correlations in nuclear matter, induced by the repulsive core of the nucleon-nucleon potential, within the framework of a self-consistent Green's function theory. The effective in-medium interaction sums the ladder diagrams of both the particle-particle and hole-hole type. The demand of self-consistency results in a set of nonlinear equations which must be solved by iteration. We explore the possibility of approximating the single-particle Green's function by a limited number of poles and residues.

Role of small-norm components in extended random-phase approximation

M. Tohyama

The role of the small-norm amplitudes in extended random-phase approximation (RPA) theories such as the particle-particle and hole-hole components of one-body amplitudes and the twobody amplitudes other than two-particle/two-hole components are investigated for the onedimensional Hubbard model using an extended RPA derived from the time-dependent density matrix theory. It is found that these amplitudes cannot be neglected in strongly interacting regions where the effects of ground-state correlations are significant.............

Response function of nuclear matter

A. Dellafiore, F. Matera

We propose a new method to calculate the particle-hole Green's function for an infinite system of fermions in the long-wavelength limit of the random-phase approximation. Contrary to the standard approach the present method does not require approximating the residual particle-hole interaction by a sum of separable terms. The method can also be applied to the Landau theory of Fermi liquids. We illustrate the method by evaluating the response function of nuclear matter in the long-wavelength limit for two different isospin channels.

Renormalization Group Methods for the Nuclear Many-Body Problem

A. Schwenk, Bengt L. Friman, G. E. Brown

The application of renormalization group methods to microscopic nuclear many-body calculations is discussed. We present the solution of the renormalization group equations in the particle-hole channels for neutron matter and the application to S-wave pairing. Furthermore, we point out that the inclusion of tensor and spin-orbit forces leads to spin non-conserving effective interactions in nuclear matter.
