Exact results of a solvable general spin-1 model

Abstract

We have introduced a type of universal transformation between spin variables ${\mathit{s}}_{\mathit{i}}$ and ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{\mathit{i}}$ to map the general spin-1 model onto the spin-1/2 Ising model and have employed the exact results of the latter to find the exactly solvable cases of the spin-1 model. Our transformations are not one-to-one correspondences between ${\mathit{s}}_{\mathit{i}}$ and ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{\mathit{i}}$ and they are applicable to all lattices, depending on the lattice structure only through the coordination number. On square, triangle, and honeycomb lattices the exact critical points are shown in certain subspaces of parameter space (K, J, L, H, and \ensuremath{\Delta}).

SOLVABLE CASES OF THE GENERAL SPIN-ONE ISING MODEL ON THE HONEYCOMB LATTICE

M. Kolesík, Ladislav Šamaj

We consider a general spin-1 Ising model on the honeycomb lattice and propose a systematic method for obtaining its solvable cases. The method is based on a sequence of transformations which produces a path between the spin-1 and spin-½ Ising models. Considering necessary conditions for performing the transformations and the solvability of the resulting spin-½ system, we recover the known and find some new nontrivial ‘exactly solvable’ subspaces in the parameter space of the spin-1 Ising model.

Exact Solution for a Spin-1 Model on Honeycomb/Triangular Lattices

TANG KUN-FA, HU JIA-ZHEN

A generalized Blume-Emery-Criffiths model on the honeycomb lattice is solved exactly in a parameter subspace. Ising transition critical surfaces are found for this model with a zero and a pure imaginary field respectively. And the mapping onto a triangular spin-1 model is made.

Exact results of a general spin-1 model on 2D decorated lattices

Xiang‐Dong Mi, Zhucheng Yang

By the decoration-iteration transformation, we find a general relation between interaction parameters of a general spin-1 model on any lattice with unique coordination number and on its decorated lattice. We obtain three exact phase transition points of the general spin-1 model on two-dimensional decorated lattices in terms of the exact results of the model on corresponding two-dimensional regular lattices, including the triangle, square, kagome and honeycomb lattices. We find the critical temperatures have no exact relation with the average coordination number and the type of coordination number for both the Ising model and the general spin-1 model.

A spin-3/2 Ising model on a square lattice

N. Sh. Izmailian

The spin-3/2 Ising model described by the most general Hamiltonian with up-down symmetry, −βH=Σ〈ij〉{JS i S j +KS 2 i S 2 j +LS 3 i S 3 j +M/2(S i S 3 j +S j S 3 i )}−ΔΣi S 2 i , is investigated on a square lattice. It is shown that this model is reducible to an eight-vertex model on a surface in the parameter space spanned by the coupling constants J, K, L, and M. It is shown that this model is equivalent to an exactly solvable free fermion model along two lines in the parameter space. Consequently, the critical behavior and, in particular, the critical temperature for the second-order phase transitions of the model is found exactly.
