Quantum squeezing effects in creating triatomic molecules from ultracold atoms

Abstract

We study the quantum dynamics of coherent creation of triatomic molecules from a repulsive atomic Bose-Einstein condensate. In a single-mode approach with short pulse duration we consider the squeezing effects for homonuclear and heteronuclear trimers by taking into account an optical photoassociation. The possibility of manipulating the quantum statistical properties of the trimer fields provides an appealing research area for current molecular matter-wave optics.

Coherent generation of triatomic molecules from ultracold atoms

Hui Jing, Jing Cheng, Pierre Meystre

We show that the use of a generalized atom-molecule dark state permits the enhanced coherent creation of triatomic molecules in a repulsive atomic Bose-Einstein condensate, with further enhancement being possible in the case of heteronuclear trimers via the constructive interference between two chemical reaction channels. The creation of fermionic trimers is also briefly discussed.

Efimov Superchemistry: Quantum Dynamical Theory for Coherent Atom–Trimer Conversion in a Repulsive Atomic Bose–Einstein Condensate

Jing Hui, Geng Zhen-Duo

We show that by making a generalized atom–molecule dark state, coherent creation of triatomic molecules can be enhanced in a repulsive atomic Bose–Einstein condensate. The dynamics of heteronuclear trimer creation is significantly different from the homonuclear case and further enhancement can be realized by controlling its chemical reaction channels. The possibility of manipulating atom–trimer conversion provides an appealing research area for current coherent matter–wave optics.

Generation of Coherent Trimers from Bose-Condensed Atoms via a Generalized Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage

Jing Hui

We propose to use a generalized technique of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage to create an atom–molecule dark state that permits the enhanced coherent creation of triatomic molecules in a repulsive atomic Bose–Einstein condensate. As an interesting comparison, the similar cases of creating heteronuclear (bosonic or fermionic) trimers are also briefly discussed.

Dynamics of Bose-Condensed Ultracold Atoms and Trimer Molecules with the Formation of Atomic–Molecular Pairs

Зинган Анна Петровна, Olga F. Vasilieva, P. I. Khadzhi

Abstract The results of investigation of the photodissociation dynamics of triatomic Bose-condensed ultracold molecules (trimers) with the formation of atoms and diatomic (dimer) pairs are presented. The interaction Hamiltonian is proposed, and a system of nonlinear equations is constructed that describes the evolution of atoms and molecules. Integrals of motion are obtained, and a nonlinear differential equation is derived for the time evolution of the atomic density with the use of these integrals. The solutions of this equation in various approximations imply that, depending on the initial conditions, different regimes of time evolution of the system are possible: periodic and aperiodic regimes.

Full counting statistics of heteronuclear molecules from Feshbach-assisted photoassociation

Andreas Nunnenkamp, D. Meiser, Pierre Meystre

We study the effects of quantum statistics on the counting statistics of ultracold heteronuclear molecules formed by Feshbach-assisted photoassociation (Search and Meystre 2004 Phys. Rev. Lett. 93 140405). Exploiting the formal similarities with sum frequency generation and using quantum optics methods, we consider the cases where the molecules are formed from atoms out of two Bose–Einstein condensates (BEC), out of a BEC and a gas of degenerate fermions, and out of two degenerate Fermi gases with and without superfluidity. Bosons are treated in a single-mode approximation and fermions in a degenerate model. In these approximations, we can numerically solve the master equations describing the system's dynamics and thus we find the full counting statistics of the molecular modes. The full quantum dynamics calculations are complemented by mean-field calculations and short time perturbative expansions. While the molecule production rates are very similar in all three cases at this level of approximation, differences show up in the counting statistics of the molecular fields. The intermediate field of closed-channel molecules is, for short times, second-order coherent if the molecules are formed from two BECs or a Bose–Fermi mixture. They show counting statistics similar to a thermal field if formed from two normal Fermi gases. The coherence properties of molecule formation in two superfluid Fermi gases are intermediate between the two previous cases. In all cases, the final field of deeply bound molecules is found to be twice as noisy as that of the intermediate state. This is a consequence of its coupling to the lossy optical cavity in our model, which acts as an input port for quantum noise, much like the situation in an optical beam splitter.
