Nondegenerate four-wave mixing in a double-? system under the influence of coherent population trapping

Baolong Lü, W. H. Burkett, Min Xiao

Nondegenerate four-wave mixing (NDFWM) in a double-L system of Rb atomic vapor was achieved for collinear pump fields. By comparison of different pump-probe configurations, direct experimental evidence of influence of coherent population trapping on the output power of the NDFWM signal was established. A maximal efficiency for generating the NDFWM signal exists for a moderate pump power in this double-L system.

Nondegenerate four-wave mixing in a Doppler-broadened resonant medium

Joseph Nilsen, Amnon Yariv

Third-order susceptibilities are calculated for a Doppler-broadened two-level system. The dependence of four-wave mixing on the angle θ between the pump and signal fields is studied, and the reflection coefficient is shown to have a narrow field of view that is inversely proportional to the ratio of the Doppler width to the homogeneous linewidth. For the collinear geometry, θ = 0°, the frequency dependence of the nondegenerate case is analyzed and shown capable of yielding a real-time narrow-bandwidth optical filter whose bandwidth is limited by the homogeneous linewidth.

Squeezing by nondegenerate four-wave mixing in a system of three-level atoms: effects of the thermal field

Tran Quang, Vladimír Bužek

We have studied the generation of squeezing by nondegenerate four-wave mixing in a system of three-level atoms. The conditions for obtaining a large degree of squeezing in experiments with Rydberg atoms are given.
