Ground state of one-dimension repulsing particles on disordered lattice

Abstract

The ground state (GS) of interacting particles on a disordered one-dimensional (1D) host-lattice is studied by a new numerical method. It is shown that if the concentration of particles is small, then even a weak disorder of the host-lattice breaks the long-range order of Generalized Wigner Crystal (GWC), replacing it by the sequence of blocks (domains) of particles with random lengths. The mean domains length as a function of the host-lattice disorder parameter is also found. It is shown that the domain structure can be detected by a weak random field, whose form is similar to that of the ground state but has fluctuating domain walls positions. This is because the generalized magnetization corresponding to the field has a sufficiently sharp peak as a function of the amplitude of fluctuations for small amplitudes.

NUMERICAL STUDIES OF ONE-DIMENSIONAL GENERALIZED WIGNER CRYSTAL ON DISORDERED HOST-LATTICE

Victor V. Slavin

New numerical methods of the ground state and thermodynamic properties calculations of one-dimensional Generalized Wigner crystal on disordered host-lattice are proposed. Unlike computer simulation methods (for instance, Monte Carlo) these methods bring the exact results. Another attractive feature of the proposed methods is their speed: it is possible to study the systems with length about 104–105 nodes even on a personal computer. This is especially important in the case of weakly disordered systems and the long-range correlations. The gapless structure of low-energy excitation and breaking long-range correlations at arbitrary small disordering are established.

The influence of disorder in host-lattice sites on the ground state properties of onedimensional electron lattice gas has been studied. Numeric calculations of partition functions for the systems with ~104 particles have been carried out. It is shown that arbitrary weak disorder in host-lattice site positions leads to formation of electron blocks (“domains”) which destroy long-range order. Mean “domains” length is about 1/a4, where a is typical disorder in host-lattice sites positions. The calculations have been carried out using new effective method for the ground state structure and lowtemperature thermodynamic properties investigations. The method is based on the introduction of weak external non-homogeneous filed into Hamiltonian of the system. Keywords: electron gas, disordered systems, low-dimensional systems, generalized Wigner crystal, extended Hubbard model.

Numerical studies on correlations in dynamics and localization of two interacting particles in lattices

Tirthaprasad Chattaraj

Two interacting particles in lattices, in the absence of dissipation, can not distin- guish between attractive or repulsive interaction when the range of their tunnelling is limited to nearest neighbor sites. However, we find that, in the case of long-range tunnelling, the particles exhibit different dynamics for different types of interactions of the same strength. The nature of dynamical correlations between particles also becomes significantly different. For weak interactions, particles develop a character in correlation which is in between that of antiwalking and cowalking when the tunnelling is long-range. For strong interactions, particles cowalk independently of their statistics. A few recent experiments have demonstrated such effects of interactions on quantum walk of photons, atoms and spin excitations on various lattice platforms. In disordered lattices the effect of coherent backscattering makes particles localize to their initial position. We find that a weak repulsive interaction reduces localization and a strong interaction enhances localization. We also calculate the correlations between the particles in the disordered 1D and 2D systems. The effect of long-range tunnelling on localization of particles in disordered 1D systems has been explored. For large ordered or disordered lattices, computation of localization parameters becomes difficult. In these cases, an efficient recursive algorithm is used to calculate Green’s functions exactly. We extend such algorithm to disordered systems in both one and two dimensions. We also illustrate that this recursive algorithm maps directly to some graph structures like binary trees. We perform calculations for quantum walk of interacting particles on such graphs. The method is also used to calculate the properties of interacting particles on lattices with gauge fields. For disordered 2D lattices, we introduce and test approximations which produce accurate results and make the calculations more efficient. We examine the localization parameters for a broad range of interaction and disorder strengths and try to find differences among parameters within the range.

Ground-state spin structure of strongly interacting disordered 1D Hubbard model

Eli Eisenberg, Richard Berkovits

Abstract. We study the influence of on-site disorder on the magnetic properties of the ground state of the infinite-U one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard model. We find that the ground state is not ferromagnetic. This is analysed in terms of the algebraic structure of the spin dependence of the Hamiltonian. A simple explanation is derived for the 1=N periodicity in the persistent current for this model. The Hubbard model is the simplest model one can study to examine the effects of correlations between electrons in narrow energy bands. The Hamiltonian consists of a nearest neighbour hopping term and an electron–electron repulsion, U, which acts only when two electrons are on the same site. The Hubbard model is also the canonical model for the study of itinerant ferromagnetism. The strong coupling regime is of special importance for the study of ferromagnetism, since a theorem by Nagaoka [1] states that in theU D 1 limit, the ground state (GS) is ferromagnetic given some connectivity property of the lattice (which holds in most cases for d> 1). The model is solvable in one dimension and it was shown [2] that for open boundary conditions (BCs) the GS for finiteU is a singlet, i.e. there can be no ferromagnetism unless one postulates explicitly spin- or velocity-dependent forces. For infinite U, the GS of

Ground-state phases of interacting Fermi gases in disordered one-dimensional lattices

We numerically investigate a one-dimensional Anderson–Hubbard model under harmonic confinement. The effects of disorder on the ground-state properties are studied for Gaussian-correlated disorder and random impurities upon changing the amplitude of the disorder strength, the correlation length or the number of impurities. For a large disorder correlation length, both the band- and Mott-insulating phases re-enter naturally as a result of a smooth long-range correlated disorder. For the randomly distributed impurities in a system of composite Mott- and band-insulating phases, we find that the band-insulating region is rapidly destroyed while the Mott region is more robust against the increase of impurities. The fluid regions are less affected in this case.
