Inhomogeneously broadened laser with a saturable absorber

Mansour Mortazavi, Surendra Singh

A quantum theory for a laser with inhomogeneously broadened active and absorber atoms is presented. Photon-number distributions are derived for both on- and off-resonance operation of the laser, and the results are compared with the results of earlier investigations.

Experimental and Theoretical Investigations on the Intensity Noise Properties of Injection-Locked Lasers

Ingo Freitag, Andreas Tünnermann, H. Welling +4 more

Experimental investigations illustrating the intensity noise properties of injection-locked solid-state lasers were performed. The measured results are predicted by a quantum mechanical model. The theory describes the intensity noise transfer to the slave laser’s output for large modulation signals as well as for signals at the quantum noise level. Different frequency regions in the intensity noise spectrum are identified and it is shown that there exist different minimum noise levels in these regions. Under appropriate conditions, injection-locked lasers can generate non-classical light.

Difference Equations for Photon-Number Distribution in the Stationary Regime of a Random Laser

Abstract The theory of a laser has provided many semiclassical and quantum models of the laser. Differential-difference equations play a prominent role in the description of the dynamics of the laser. Investigation of the steady state leads to a simplification of these equations to the difference equations. Recent studies of random lasers have aroused interest in the description of traditional lasers.
