Theory of dressed-state lasers. I. Effective Hamiltonians and stability properties

We present a detailed theory of dressed-state lasers, i.e., the lasers that operate due to the gain on an inverted transition between dressed states of a coupled atom-field system. We derive effective Hamiltonians that describe such lasers for the case of one- and two-photon resonances. We argue that, due to the presence of nearly resonant intermediate states, the use of gain media consisting of strongly driven two-level atoms provides an unorthodox yet promising means for achieving cw optical two-photon laser oscillation. We disscuss the stability properties of radiation generated by such media.

SQUEEZING EFFECT FOR OFF-RESONANT TWO-PHOTON LASER WITH AN INJECTED SIGNAL IN GOOD- CAVITY CASE

S. SACHULF, Gang Xiang Hu, Guojian Yang +1 more

The field squeezing effect for off-resonant two-photon laser with an injected signal in good-cavity limit is studied by means of Fokker-Planck equation of the peneralized Wigner distribution. Under certain off-resonance condition, the field squeezing effect of two-photon laser may be observed.

Manipulating Feshbach resonances in collisions of atoms in laser radiation field

A. D. Gazazyan, E. A. Gazazyan, V. O. Chaltykyan

Collisions of atoms with formation of Feshbach resonances in the presence of laser field are considered. The elastic and inelastic scattering cross sections are calculated. The laser field leads to second resonance in elastic scattering, broadening of resonances, and arising of interference between resonant and potential scattering. The effects associated with interference of the two channels of decay of bound system of two atoms (a molecule) in laser field are studied. It is shown that if the energy equals that of the lower stable Stark-shifted level plus the energy of two photons, the resonance is quenched. It is also shown that with the increase in two-photon effective interaction the pattern of resonance scattering changes essentially.
