Entanglement of qutrits

Abstract

For two types of qutrits specified by the dynamical symmetry SU(3) and SU(2), we consider the difference in entanglement caused by the lack of quantum observables in the latter case. In particular, we show that the SU(2) qutrits can have specific separable entanglement caused by quantum correlations of intrinsic degrees of freedom in a single party without interparty correlations.

Entangled, coherent, and squeezed states of a single SU(2) qutrit

Sinem Binicioǧlu, M. Ali Can, Alexander A. Klyachko +1 more

Using the single SU(2) qutrit (spin-1 like system), we show that entanglement may take place for a single particle with respect to its internal degrees of freedom, in other words, beyond the conventional requirements of nonlocality and nonseparability. We show that the SU(2) or spin coherent states do not manifest entanglement, while the so-called squeezed spin states are entangled. We reveal the principle difference between the spin coherent and spin squeezed states in terms of quantum correlations. A number of physical realizations of the SU(2) qutrit is discussed.

Entanglement of biphoton-based qutrits and ququarts

S. P. Kulik, Stanislav S. Straupe

In this paper we discuss physical aspects of entanglement in biphoton-based qutrits and ququarts, taking into account the bosonic correlations due to the indistinguishability of photons. We show that two apparently different types of entanglement in these systems, 'entanglement of modes' and 'entanglement of photons', are in fact closely related to each other. The latter is to a remarkable extent connected with the degree of polarization of two-photon light. Specifically, we demonstrate that a beamsplitter and subsequent post-selection using a coincidence circuit converts 'entanglement of photons' of a qutrit into 'entanglement of modes' of a ququart.

State entanglement of biphoton qutrits and ququarts

Mikhail Vladimirovich Fedorov

Properties of biphoton qutrits and ququarts are characterized with allowance for the demands of the symmetry of wave functions of two-boson states and, in the case of ququarts, for the presence of two independent degrees of freedom (e.g., polarization and frequency) of the photons.

Entanglement of qutrits and ququarts

Mikhail Vladimirovich Fedorov, P. A. Volkov, J. M. Mikhailova +2 more

We investigate in a general form entanglement of biphoton qutrits and ququarts, i.e. states formed in the processes of collinear and, correspondingly, degenerate and non-degenerate Spontaneous Parametric Down-Conversion. Indistinguishability of photons and, for ququarts, joint presence of the frequency and and polarization entanglement are fully taken into account. In the case of qutrits the most general 3-parametric families of maximally entangled and non-entangled states are found, and anti-correlation of the degree of entanglement and polarization is shown to occur and to be characterized by a rather simple formula. Biphoton ququarts are shown to be two-qudits with the single-photon Hilbert space dimensionality $d=4$, which differs them significantly from the often used two-qubit model ($d=2$). New expressions for entanglement quantifiers of biphoton ququarts are derived and discussed. Rather simple procedures for a direct measurement of the degree of entanglement are described for both qutrits and ququarts.

Two-body control of noiseless subsystems with mixed $SU(3)$ representations lifts teleportation above the classical fidelity limit

Otavio A. D. Molitor, Sergii Strelchuk, Michał Studziński

Collective noise can leave degrees of freedom unaffected, allowing them to store quantum information. Processing this information also requires physically available logical gates. We consider $r$ fundamental qutrits transforming under $U\in SU(3)$ and $s$ dual qutrits transforming under its complex conjugate $\overline U$, with collective action $R_{r,s}(U)=U^{\otimes r}\otimes\overline U^{\otimes s}$. Using the image of the walled Brauer algebra and Lie-algebra arguments, we show that adjacent exchanges within each qutrit type and one singlet-projector interaction between the two types generate any independently chosen family of special unitary gates on the noiseless subsystems by a finite pulse sequence, for every $r,s\geq1$. This establishes semi-universality of this system. We illustrate the result with a numerically optimised sequence of 24 pulses for three fundamental qutrits and one dual qutrit. We then use the encoding and available logical corrections for qutrit teleportation under correlated Weyl noise. Under explicit assumptions on channel composition and which trials are retained, and allowing for baseline implementation errors, we identify noise ranges in which encoded teleportation exceeds the classical fidelity bound of $1/2$, while the unencoded teleportation channel is entanglement breaking. We analyse fidelity on accepted trials separately from the transmission costs of the additional physical qutrits.

SU(N) algebras and new thumbrules for entanglement of bipartite qubit and qutrit systems

P. Dasgupta, Debashis Gangopadhyay

Based on the Schmidt decomposition new convenient thumbrules are obtained to test entanglement of wavefunctions for bipartite qubit and qutrit systems. For the qubit system there is an underlying SU(2) algebra , while the same for a qutrit system is SU(3).

Collective noise can leave degrees of freedom unaffected, allowing them to store quantum information. Processing this information also requires physically available logical gates. We consider rrr fundamental qutrits transforming under U∈SU(3)U\in SU(3)U∈SU(3) and sss dual qutrits transforming under its complex conjugate U‾\overline UU, with collective action Rr,s(U)=U⊗r⊗U‾⊗sR_{r,s}(U)=U^{\otimes r}\otimes\overline U^{\otimes s}Rr,s(U)=U⊗r⊗U⊗s. Using the image of the walled Brauer algebra and Lie-algebra arguments, we show that adjacent exchanges within each qutrit type and one singlet-projector interaction between the two types generate any independently chosen family of special unitary gates on the noiseless subsystems by a finite pulse sequence, for every r,s≥1r,s\geq1r,s≥1. This establishes semi-universality of this system. We illustrate the result with a numerically optimised sequence of 24 pulses for three fundamental qutrits and one dual qutrit. We then use the encoding and available logical corrections for qutrit teleportation under correlated Weyl noise. Under explicit assumptions on channel composition and which trials are retained, and allowing for baseline implementation errors, we identify noise ranges in which encoded teleportation exceeds the classical fidelity bound of 1/21/21/2, while the unencoded teleportation channel is entanglement breaking.
