Modeling and Control of Quantum Systems: An Introduction

Claudio Altafini, F. Ticozzi

The scope of this work is to provide a self-contained introduction to a selection of basic theoretical aspects in the modeling and control of quantum mechanical systems, as well as a brief survey on the main approaches to control synthesis. While part of the existing theory, especially in the open-loop setting, stems directly from classical control theory (most notably geometric control and optimal control), a number of tools specifically tailored for quantum systems have been developed since the 1980s, in order to take into account their distinctive features: the probabilistic nature of atomic-scale physical systems, the effect of dissipation and the irreversible character of the measurements have all proved to be critical in feedback-design problems. The relevant dynamical models for both closed and open quantum systems are presented, along with the main results on their controllability and stability. A brief review of several currently available control design methods is meant to provide the interested reader with a roadmap for further studies.

Recent progress in quantum information research in the Deapartment of Physics, Tsinghua University

Long Gui

At the occasion of the 60 anniversary of the department, we give a brief introduction of the recent progress on quantum information research over the last few years, including quantum search algorithm, nuclear magnetic resonnace quantum computing experiment, quantum communication theory and experiment. In quantum algorithm study, we put forward the concept of phase matching in quantum searching, corrected a mistake at that time, and furthermore we constructed a quantum search algorithm with 100% successful rate which improves the Grover algorithm. In NMR quantum computing, we have demonstrated several quantum algorithms using 2 to 7 qubits NMR systems. In quantum communication, we have proposed the idea of distributed quantum communication and applied the idea to quantum key distribution, quantum secret sharing and quantum secure direct communication. We have constructed dozens of quantum communication protocols based on this idea. We have demonstrated quantum communication over a 2m distance in free space in laboratory.

Quantum Control and Its Application: A Brief Introduction

Binbin Chen, Jing Wang, Yunsen Zhou

Abstract The development of quantum information science has brought great changes to the fields of computer and communication, and deepened people’s understanding of basic physical problems. The core problems of overcoming decoherence, preparing and manipulating quantum states are quantum control problems in essence, so the research on quantum control will attract more and more attention and be important in the development of quantum information. This paper studies several applications of quantum Lyapunov control and quantum feedback control in quantum information processing by using Schrodinger equation, and some principal equations as tools for finite-dimensional systems. In this paper, a brief introduction of quantum control and its applications is presented to review the recent development and its prospect.
