Bose-Einstein condensation in a loffe-Pritchard trap

Since its first observation in 1995,1 Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) experiments in dilute gases have been performed with only a few different kinds of magnetic traps. In addition, the effect of the confining potential on, e.g., the condensation process,2 has not been investigated experimentally. We have performed a BEC experiment with 87Rb atoms in a Ioffe-Pritchard magnetic potential,3 which opens up the possibility to study, e.g., Bose–Einstein condensates released in only one dimension.

The Theory of Bose-Einstein Condensation and the Approach of BEC's Realization

Qiao An-qin

On the basis of the analysis of the conditions for producing BEC and the generalization of several successful experiments on Bose-Einstein condensation, such idea is produced that the experimental conception on the production of two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensation can be realized by ideal gas under limited conditions.

Analysis of Runaway Evaporation and Bose–Einstein Condensation by Time-of-Flight Absorption Imaging

Shuai Chen, Xiaoji Zhou, Yang Fan +4 more

The achievement of Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) in our experiment is reported. The process of BEC formation is observed by detecting the image after free expansion, in which the effectiveness of runaway evaporative cooling is shown by measuring the optical density of the atom cloud. About 2 × 10 5 87 Rb atoms in the | F = 2, m F = 2⟩ state are condensed into the condensate. The ratio of axial-to-radial size of the condensate released from the magnetic trap is investigated in theory and experiment.
