Abstract

We suggest an experimental procedure allowing one to prepare squeezed vacuum in a special type of generalized Bell states, first introduced by V.P. Karassiov. We present the first results on the experimental generation of such states and observation of their polarization properties.

Recently, the possibility of generating squeezed vacuum states via polarization self‐rotation in hot atomic vapour has been debated. We present experimental results confirming that vacuum squeezed states can be generated using this method.

Fiber-Optical Sources of Quantum Squeezed Light

Alexander V. Andrianov, N. A. Kalinin, Arseny A. Sorokin +2 more

Abstract Quantum squeezed states of light characterized by a reduced quantum uncertainty with respect to one of the quadrature variables smaller than the uncertainty of the vacuum state (the standard quantum limit) play an important role in the current fundamental and applied research. The main information concerning the proprieties and manifestations of the squeezed states are presented. A concise review of the methods for obtaining and detecting the quantum squeezed light is performed; at that, a special attention is payed to fiber-optical schemas. The Kerr mechanism of squeezed state generation that is realized in various variants of fiber-optic systems is considered in detail. An experimental scheme of generation of polarization-squeezed states based on a nonlinear polarization-maintaining fiber is presented. Different factors that limit squeezing are considered.

Compensation of anisotropy effects in a nonlinear crystal for squeezed vacuum generation

A M Pérez, F Just, A Cavanna +2 more

Squeezed vacuum can be obtained by an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) with the quantum vacuum state at the input. We are interested in a degenerate type-I OPA based on parametric down-conversion (PDC) where, due to phase matching requirements, an extraordinary polarized pump must impinge onto a birefringent crystal with a large χ (2) nonlinearity. As a consequence of the optical anisotropy of the medium, the spatial spectrum of the generated radiation is affected by the transverse walk-off. In this work we describe a method that reduces the spatial distortions, by using two consecutive crystals instead of one. We show that after anisotropy compensation the two-photon amplitude becomes symmetric, allowing for a simple Schmidt expansion, a procedure that in practice requires states that come from experimental systems free of anisotropy effects. Qualitative experimental observations are made for the case of high-gain PDC.

Simultaneous experimental generation of vacuum squeezing and bright amplitude squeezing from a frequency doubler

Yu Luo, Ying Li, Changde Xie +2 more

Both vacuum-squeezed and bright amplitude-squeezed states of light are experimentally generated from a frequency doubler with a semimonolithic Fabry-Perot configuration consisting of a type II nonlinear crystal and a concave mirror. Vacuum squeezing of 3.2 +/- 0.1 dB and amplitude squeezing of 1.3 +/- 0.2 dB are obtained simultaneously at a pump power of 8 mW. The two quadrature-squeezed optical fields that are generated are of identical frequency at 1080-nm wavelength and orthogonal polarization. Optimizing the input pump power by 19 mW yields as much as 5.0 +/- 0.2 dB of maximum vacuum squeezing. The advantages of the system are its simplicity and multiple utility.

Squeezed State Caused by Inverse of Photon Creation Operator

Using the photon creation operator's eigenstate theory we derive the normally ordered expansion of inverse of the squeezed creation operator. It turns out that using this operator a kind of excitation on the squeezed vacuum states can be formed.
