A Note on the Overlap Integral of two Harmonic Oscillator Wave Functions

F. Ansbacher

Published Oct 1, 1959• 168 citations
Publisher

Abstract

The overlap integral of two harmonic oscillator wave functions, centred about different equilibrium positions, and having different force constants, is evaluated in terms of a finite sum of polynomials. Recurrence relations and the first derivative of the integral with respect to the separation parameter are also given.

Q-extension of the linear harmonic oscillator

Mesuma K. Atakishiyeva, Natig M. Atakishiyev, Carlos Villegas‐Blas

Overlap integrals over the full real line for a family of q- extensions of the linear harmonic oscillator wave functions in quantum mechanics are evaluated. In particular, an explicit form of the squared norms for these q-wave functions is obtained. The classical Fourier-Gauss transform connects the families with different values 0 < q < 1 and q < 1 of the deformation parameter q. An explicit expansion of the q-Hermite polynomials of Rogers in terms of the ordinary Hermite polynomials emerges as a by-product.

Recurrence relations for two-center harmonic oscillator integrals and their solutions using generating functions

Muneer Ahmad Rashid

Using the algebraic second quantization formalism, the general recurrence relations for some two-center harmonic oscillator integrals are obtained. The various known special cases for one-center integrals are evident in the formalism. Generating functions for these integrals are obtained and most of them are solved to find explicit expressions for polynomial, exponential, and Gaussian operator integrals. For these cases, all the generating integrals needed for utilizing the recurrence relations are also calculated in their simplest forms.

An expansion of two particle harmonic oscillator wavefunction products

Eytan Domany

Second quantization is used to expand the product of two harmonic oscillator wavefunctions, of two different particles, centred on different sites, in terms of relative and centre of mass coordinate dependent functions.

Transition moment integrals and the hypervirial theorem. I

Charles Alfred Coulson, John C. Nash

Hypervirial theorems are used to derive a differential equation for the transition-moment generating function (A mod exp(itx) mod B) associated with eigenstates A and B in a one dimensional wave- mechanical system. Explicit solution of the equation is possible for the harmonic oscillator, and leads to a simple expression for the overlap integral between two similar oscillators on different centres.

On the recursive solution of the quantum harmonic oscillator

José M. Pérez‐Jordá

Abstract This paper advocates writing the eigenfunctions of the harmonic oscillator without Hermite polynomials, by means of the following recurrence relation: Ψ n = 2 α / n x Ψ n − 1 − ( n − 1 ) / n Ψ n − 2 ( n > 0 ) , with Ψ 0 = ( α / π ) 1 / 4 e − α x 2 / 2 . It is easy to prove that these functions are eigenfunctions of the harmonic oscillator. It is shown that many of the exercises related to the harmonic oscillator found in textbooks can be solved in a simple and elegant way by using this recurrence relation.
