Abstract

We study spin squeezing properties in the real and imaginary spin coherent states. We obtain analytical expressions of two spin squeezing parameters via a novel ladder operator formalism of the spin coherent state and the generation function method. Numerical results of the spin squeezing properties are discussed in detail, and the real and imaginary spin coherent state can be spin squeezed over a large range of parameters.

Spin squeezing in nonlinear spin-coherent states

Xiaoguang Wang

We introduce the nonlinear spin-coherent state (SCS) via its ladder operator formalism and propose a type of nonlinear SCS by the nonlinear time evolution of the SCS. By a new version of spectroscopic squeezing criteria we study the spin squeezing in both the SCS and the nonlinear SCS. The results show that the SCS is not squeezed in the x , y and z directions, and the nonlinear SCS may be squeezed in the x and y directions.

Spin squeezing and entanglement in superposition of nonlinear spin coherent states

Azita Naji, Mojtaba Jafarpour, Fatemeh Sammak

We study squeezing and entanglement in superposition of a class of nonlinear spin coherent states. We analyze these properties as a function of the coherence and superposition parameters, number of qubits and the Hamiltonians involved, by presenting analytical and numerical results. We specifically observe that a subclass of these states, the even non-linear cat states are maximally entangled and squeezed, while another related subclass, the odd non-linear cat states, are entangled but not squeezed at all.

Spin squeezing via ladder operations on an atomic coherent state

Christopher C. Gerry, Adil Benmoussa

We study the generation of spin squeezing by the repeated action of the angular momentum (Dicke) lowering operator on an atomic coherent state prepared for a collection of $N$ two-level atoms or ions. The atoms or ions of the atomic coherent state are not entangled, but the action of the lowering operator (or similarly of the raising operator) generates entanglement among the atoms, and spin squeezing occurs for some ranges of the relevant parameter. Spin squeezing in a collection of two-level atoms or ions is of importance for precision spectroscopy. We discuss methods by which our spin-squeezed states could be generated in the contexts of cavity QED and trapped ions.

Relations between bosonic quadrature squeezing and atomic spin squeezing

Xiaoguang Wang, Barry C. Sanders

We study relations between bosonic quadrature squeezing and atomic spin squeezing, and find that the latter reduces to the former in the limit of a large number of atoms for even and odd states. We demonstrate this reduction by treating even and odd spin coherent states, for which analytical solutions are readily obtained, and prove that even spin coherent states always exhibit spin squeezing, whereas odd spin coherent states do not, analogous to the squeezing characteristic of even and odd bosonic coherent states. Finally, we examine the squeezing transfer between photons and atoms via the Dicke Hamiltonian, where a perfect transfer of squeezing is demonstrated in the limit of a large number of atoms.

Mean spin direction and spin squeezing in superpositions of spin coherent states

Dong Yan, Xiaoguang Wang, Lijun Song +1 more

Abstract We consider the mean spin direction (MSD) of superpositions of two spin coherent states (SCS) | ± μ〉, and superpositions of | μ〉 and | μ*〉 with a relative phase. We find that the azimuthal angle exhibits a π transition for both states when we vary the relative phase. The spin squeezing of the states, and the bosonic counterpart of the mean spin direction are also discussed.
