Phase Separation of Superconducting Phases in the Penson–Kolb–Hubbard Model

Konrad Jerzy Kapcia, Wojciech Robert Czart, Andrzej Ptok

In this paper we determine the phase diagrams (for $T=0$ as well as $T>0$) of the Penson-Kolb-Hubbard model for two dimensional square lattice within Hartree-Fock mean-field theory focusing on investigation of superconducting phases and possibility of the occurrence of the phase separation. We obtain that the phase separation, which is a state of coexistence of two different superconducting phases (with $s$-wave and $η$-wave symmetries), occurs in define range of the electron concentration. In addition, increasing temperature can change the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter (from $η$-wave into $s$-wave). The system considered exhibits also an interesting multicritical behaviour including bicritical points.

Coexistence of nematic order and superconductivity in the Hubbard model

Jan Kaczmarczyk, Tobias Schickling, Jörg Bünemann

We study the interplay of nematic and superconducting order in the two-dimensional Hubbard model and show that they can coexist, especially when superconductivity is not the energetically dominant phase. Due to a breaking of the ${C}_{4}$ symmetry, the coexisting phase inherently contains admixture of the $s$-wave pairing components. As a result, the superconducting gap exhibits nonstandard features including changed nodal directions. Our results also show that in the optimally doped regime the pure superconducting phase is typically unstable towards developing nematicity (breaking of the ${C}_{4}$ symmetry). This has implications for the cuprate high-${T}_{c}$ superconductors, for which in this regime the so-called intertwined orders have recently been observed. Namely, the coexisting phase may be viewed as a precursor to such more involved patterns of symmetry breaking.

Ground-state phase diagram of the two-dimensional t-J model

Sheng-Hao Li, Qian‐Qian Shi, Huan-Qiang Zhou

The ground-state phase diagram of the two-dimensional t-J model is investigated in the context of the tensor network algorithm in terms of the graded Projected Entangled-Pair State representation of the ground-state wave functions. There is a line of phase separation between the Heisenberg anti-ferromagnetic state without hole and a hole-rich state. For both J=0.4t and J=0.8t, a systematic computation is performed to identify all the competing ground states for various dopings. It is found that, besides a possible Nagaoka's ferromagnetic state, the homogeneous regime consists of four different phases: one phase with charge and spin density wave order coexisting with a p_x (p_y)-wave superconducting state, one phase with the symmetry mixing of d+s-wave superconductivity in the spin-singlet channel and p_x (p_y)-wave superconductivity in the spin-triplet channel in the presence of an anti-ferromagnetic background, one superconducting phase with extended s-wave symmetry, and one superconducting phase with p_x (p_y)-wave symmetry in a ferromagnetic background.
