Abstract

An approximate treatment is given for the state evolution in the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model with initial squeezed vacuum and chaotic state fields. Both initially pure and mixed atomic states are examined. Interesting features such as the evolution of the atom into unique pure states and the recurrence of the initial atomic states at certain times are found. Effects of the dynamic Stark shifts on the system state evolution are also studied.

Quantum dynamical properties of a two-photon non linear Jaynes-cummings model

Guido Berlín, J. Aliaga

In this paper a two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model interacting with a Kerr-like medium is studied. It is assumed that the electromagnetic field is in different states such as coherent, squeezed vacuum and pair coherent, and that the atom is initially in the excited state. The temporal evolution of the population of the excited level, and the second-order coherence function are studied. The results obtained show that this system has some similarities with the two-mode Stark system. Two photon entanglement are analysed at different initial conditions.

Influence of initial atomic coherence on squeezing of radiative field in the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model

Xiuli Xu, Ce Zhou

In this paper, the general evolution laws of the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model with initially arbitrary states have been investigated. And the emphasis is put on the influenec of the initial atomic coherence on the squeezing of radiative field in the two-photon Jaynes-Oummings model. As an example, the squeezing of the field in the interaction of a two-level atom of arbitrary initial states with the vacuum and coherent field is studied, and the squeezing of the field under various conditions has been calculated numerically.

The disentangled-state in the two-photon Jaynes-Cumming model with a Kerr-like medium

Wei Wei, Guo Guang-Can

The pure-state dynamical evolution of the atomic as well as the field states in the two-photon Jaynes-Cumming model with a Kerr-like medium for the field initially in the coherent state is investigated under the high-field approximation ( ≫ 1). Analytic expressions of the disentanglement conditions and the relevant disentangled states are derived, which are closely related to Kerr nonlinear coupling constant. This study also reveals that the initial atomic excited state can be evolved into the atomic dipole squeezed state.

Multiphoton interaction or squeezed light with a phased atom

Changxin Wang, Reeta Vyas

Evolution of the squeezed state in a multiphoton Jaynes–Cummings model (JCM) when the field is interacting with an atom prepared initially in a coherent superposition of the ground state and the excited state is studied. Long time and short time evolution of field statistics are discussed and compared with the standard JCM. These properties are found to be sensitive to the initial phase of the atom. For a phased atom, squeezing at later times can be larger than the initial squeezing. It is found that two-photon interaction of a suitably prepared phased atom with the initial vacuum state can yield 45% squeezing below the vacuum noise limit. Multiphoton interaction of a phased atom with the initial vacuum state of the field leads periodically to a pure field state that is a coherent superposition of the vacuum state and the n-photon Fock state.

Atom- and field-state evolution in the Jaynes-Cummings model for large initial fields

Julio R. Gea-Banacloche

An asymptotic result is derived for the Jaynes-Cummings model of a two-level atom interacting with a quantized single-mode field, which is valid when the field is initially in a coherent state with a large average photon number. It is shown that for certain initial atomic states the joint atom-field wave function factors into an atomic and a field part throughout the interaction, so that each system remains separately in a pure state. The atomic part of the wave function displays a crossing of trajectories in the atom Hilbert space that leads to a unique state for the atom, independent of its initial state, at a specific time ${\mathit{t}}_{0}$ (equal to half the revival time). The field part of the wave function resembles a crescent squeezed state. The well-known collapses and revivals are investigated from this perspective. The collapse appears to be associated with a ``measurement'' of the initial state of the atom with the field as the measuring apparatus. The measurement is not complete for finite average photon number: the system is instead left in a coherent superposition of macroscopically distinct states. At the half-revival time ${\mathit{t}}_{0}$ this superposition of states is entirely in the field part of the state vector, so that the (pure) state of the field at that time is of the form sometimes referred to as a ``Schr\"odinger cat.'' The revivals of the population inversion are seen to be entirely due to the fact that the linear superposition of the two macroscopically distinct field states is coherent (i.e., a pure state), as opposed to an incoherent mixture.
