Polariton dynamics in strongly interacting quantum many-body systems

Arturo Camacho-Guardian, K. Knakkergaard Nielsen, Thomas Pohl +1 more

This work describes the propagation of slow light through a Bose-Einstein condensate in the presence of strong atomic interactions. It reveals the formation of polaron-polaritons as a result of the interplay between light-atom and atom-atom interactions.

The energy storage in the formation of slow light

R. N. Shakhmuratov

Slow light formation in media with (i) an electromagnetically induced transparency, (ii) a doublet structure, and (iii) a single absorption line, detuned from resonance, is considered with the help of a simple model. The model is based on the description of particles in these media by a pseudospin 1/2, which is subject to two ‘orthogonal fields’. We mainly focus on the analysis of the reversible process of the particle excitation–de-excitation resulting in the temporal storage of the light-pulse energy without the pulse corruption. The influence of irreversible relaxation processes on the slow light formation is studied.

Spectrally efficient slow light using multilevel phase-modulated formats

Bo Zhang, Lianshan Yan, Lin Zhang +4 more

A phase-preserving and spectrally efficient slow-light scheme has been proposed and demonstrated by utilizing advanced multilevel phase-modulated formats. A 60 ps symbol delay with error-free demodulation of both I and Q channels for 10 Gbit/s return-to-zero differential-quadrature-phase-shift-keyed (DQPSK) signals via a broadband stimulated Brillouin scattering-based slow-light medium is achieved experimentally. Simulation results on 20 Gbit/s DQPSK and 30 Gbit/s D8PSK propose to transmit very high spectrally efficient multilevel formats through a bandwidth-limited slow-light element.
