Coherent state constellations for Bosonic Gaussian channels

Felipe Gomes Lacerda, Joseph M. Renes, Volkher B. Scholz

We propose constellations of finitely-many coherent states for high-rate quantum and classical communication over the thermal noise Bosonic Gaussian channel. Our constructions are based on constellations for the classical additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel, and we adapt the results of Wu and Verdú [Allerton 2010, pp. 620] for the AWGN to determine achievable rates of classical and quantum information transmission for the thermal noise channel. Several constellations allow classical rates approaching the classical capacity, recently determined by Giovannetti et al. [Nature Photonics 8, 796 (2014)], while in the quantum case the rates approach the Gaussian coherent information. The constellations can also be used for private transmission of classical information at the coherent information rate.

Quantum capacity of thermal noise channel

Xiaoyu Chen

The quantum capacity of thermal noise channel (which is addressed as Gaussian quantum channel before) is studied, it turns out to be the maximum of the coherent information of a single use of the channel. The quantum capacity is achieved when the input state is a thermal noise state with infinitive energy. The capacity is achievable with quantum error-correction code. The quantum capacities of thermal noise channels with damping or amplification are also given. One of the most important issues of classical information theory is the Shannon formula, which is the capacity of an additive white Gaussian noise channel. It is achieved when the input is a Gaussian noise source with power constrain [1] [2]. C = log2 (1 + S), (1)

Quantum capacity of channel with thermal noise

Xiaoyu Chen

The quantum capacity of thermal noise channel is studied. The extremal input state is obtained at the postulation that the coherent information is convex or concave at its vicinity. When the input energy tends to infinitive, it is verified by perturbation theory that the coherent information reaches its maximum at the product of identical thermal state input. The quantum capacity is obtained for lower noise channel and it is equal the one shot capacity.
