Abstract

Programmable reversible logic is gain wide consideration as a logic design style for modern nanotechnology and quantum computing with minimal impact on circuit heat generation in improved computer architecture and arithmetic logic unit designs. In this paper, a 2*2 Swap gate which is a reduced implementation in terms of quantum cost and delay to the previous Swap gate is presented. Then, a novel 3*3 programmable UPG gate capable of calculating the universal logic calculations is presented and verified, and its advantages over the Toffoli and Peres gates are discussed. The UPG is then implemented in a reduced design for calculating n-bit AND, n-bit OR and n-bit ZERO calculations. Then, two 3*3 RMUX gates capable of multiplexing two input values with reduced quantum cost and delay compared to the previously existing Fred kin gate is presented and verified. Next, a novel 4*4 reversible programmable RC gate capable of nine unique logical calculations at low cost and delay is presented and verified. The UPG and RC are implemented in the design of novel sequential and tree-based comparators. These designs are compared to previously existing designs, and their advantages in terms of cost and delay are analyzed. Then, the RMUX is used to improve a reversible SRAM cell we previously presented. The memory cell and comparator are implemented in the design of a Min/Max Comparator device.

Programmable reversible logic is emerging as a prospective logic design style for implementation in modern nanotechnology and quantum computing with minimal impact on circuit heat generation. Recent advances in reversible logic using and quantum computer algorithms allow for improved computer architecture and arithmetic logic unit designs. In this paper, a 2*2 Swap gate which is a reduced implementation in terms of quantum cost and delay to the previous Swap gate is presented. Next, a novel 3*3 programmable UPG gate capable of calculating the fundamental logic calculations is presented and verified, and its advantages over the Toffoli and Peres gates are discussed. The UPG is then implemented in a reduced design for calculating n-bit AND, nbit OR and n-bit ZERO calculations. Then, two 3*3 RMUX gates capable of multiplexing two input values with reduced quantum cost and delay compared to the previously existing Fredkin gate is presented and verified. Next, 4*4 reversible gate is presented and verified which is capable of producing the calculations necessary for two-bit comparisons. The UPG and RC are implemented in the design of novel sequential and tree-based comparators. Then, two novel 4*4 reversible logic gates (MRG and PAOG) are proposed with minimal delay, and may be configured to produce a variety of logical calculations on fixed output lines based on programmable select input lines. A 5*5 structure (MG) is proposed that extends the capabilities of both the MRG and PAOG. The comparator designs are verified and its advantages to previous designs are discussed. Then, reversible implementations of ripple-carry, carry-select and Kogge-Stone carry look-ahead adders are analyzed and compared. Next, implementations of the Kogge-Stone adder with sparsity-4, 8 and 16 were designed, verified and compared. The enhanced sparsity-4 Kogge-Stone adder with ripple-carry adders was selected as the best design, and its implemented in the design of a 32-bit arithmetic logic unit is demonstrated. The proposed ALU design is verified and its advantages over the only existing ALU design are quantitatively analyzed.

A Comparator Tree Design with Optimized Quantum Cost Using Reversible Logic Techniques

Aruru Sai Kumar, Anreddy Ramya, U. Siddhesh +3 more

Reversible logic is gaining increasing significance in diverse research areas, including quantum computing, nanotechnology, and optical computing. The exploration of reversible gates has emerged as a cutting-edge research area, driving a wave of innovative developments aimed at maximizing resource efficiency. This work focused on creating highly efficient 2-bit, 8-bit, and 64-bit comparators, leveraging the advantages of reversible logic gates. The results obtained from the comparative analysis demonstrate substantial improvements in energy efficiency and computational speed compared to other architectures. The proposed design demonstrated superior performance with reduced quantum cost and delay while minimizing garbage outputs. Specifically, the quantum costs of the 2-bit, 8-bit, and 64-bit comparators were measured to be 20, 128, and 1136, respectively. These outcomes suggest substantial enhancements in a variety of parameters, which ultimately will result in a more efficient and effective design. The functionality of the designed comparator tree was validated using Xilinx Vivado 2022.2 and implemented in Verilog HDL.

An optimized design of binary comparator circuit in quantum computing

Ankur Sarker, M. Shamiul Amin, Avishek Bose +1 more

Reversible logic; transforms logic signal in a way that allows the original input signals to be recovered from the produced outputs, has attracted great attention because of its application in diverse areas such as quantum computing, low power computing, nanotechnology, DNA computing, quantum dot cellular automata, optical computing. In this paper, we design low power binary comparators using reversible logic gates. Firstly, single bit binary reversible comparator circuits are designed using different reversible gates along with proposed gate named Newly Proposed Gate. Then, these procedures are generalized for constructing binary n-bit reversible comparator circuit. The design synthesis consists of two parts: Comparator Cell and Propagator Cell. An algorithm, based on our proposed design, shows that proposed circuit reduces overall cost and it outperforms than existing sequential comparator circuits. Also, comparing with existing tree-based comparator circuit, proposed design reduces quantum cost, garbage output and gate count in a significance level which means better improvement as cost of any quantum circuit is directly associated with quantum cost, garbage output and gate count.

Today, reversible logic circuits has attracted considerable attention in improving some fields like nanotechnology, quantum computing, and low power design. In this paper 4 bit reversible comparator based on classical logic circuit is represented which uses existing reversible gates. In this design we try to reduce optimization parameters like number of constant inputs, garbage outputs, and quantum cost. The results show that, the proposed comparator has 4 quantum cost and one constant input less than the prior design. 1

A novel optimization method for reversible logic circuit minimization

Matthew A. Morrison, Nagarajan Ranganathan

We present an optimization method for reversible logic synthesis based on the Integrated Qubit (IQ) library. This method works in conjunction with existing methods to further improve quantum cost and delay of a synthesized reversible logic circuit. This algorithm runs in O(N) time, and reduces the quantum cost of synthesized circuit by up to 45 percent. In addition, the process of replacing the gates in the synthesized circuits with IQ gates uses a locally optimal technique whose major benefits include reduction of cost as well as delay.

Reversible logic has shown considerable acceptance and growth in the research fields like quantum computing, Nano computing and optical computing promising lower power dissipation. This paper proposes an optimised design single-bit reversible comparator called SKAR gate with a purpose of reducing quantum cost.Besides, this novel SKAR gate is used as a single-bit reversible comparator to construct an optimised design for a fourbit reversible comparator. The paper discusses two designs, one with the use of SKAR gate and other one using a derivative gate constructed from SKAR gate.Since the reversible logic aims at reducing the value of its fundamental parameters viz.quantum cost, garbage outputs, ancillary inputs, delay and number of gates; Both the proposed designs for single-bit and four-bit reversible comparator are compared with other existing designs on the basis of elementary parameters of reversible logic.
