Abstract

Electromagetically Induced Transparency (EIT) has been observed in K2two-photon transitions using a single laser. The intermediate mixed state A1Σu+∼b3Πuresonantly enhanced the two-photon 23Πg→X1Σg+transition.

Electromagnetically induced two-photon transparency in rubidium atoms

Dong Wang, Jinwei Gao, J. H. Xu +2 more

We present an experimental demonstration of electromagnetically induced two-photon transparency (EITT) in room temperature rubidium vapor. The 8 S 1/2 to 5 P 1/2 fluorescence is used to monitor the 5 S 1/2 ( F = 3) to 8 S 1/2 ( F = 3) two-photon absorption near resonance with the intermediate state 5 P 3/2 . A controlling pump laser beam is employed to coherently couple the 5 P 3/2 and 5 D 5/2 states, thus producing two dressed intermediate states which give rise to destructive interference in the two-photon transition. An induced two-photon transparency of about 80% has been obtained at resonance; our experimental findings are in good agreement with the general theory of Agarwal et al. ( Phys. Rev. Lett. , 77 (1996) 1039), when the appropriate spectroscopic parameters are used.

Characterisation of the b3Σ+, v = 0 state and its interaction with the A1Π state in aluminium monofluoride

Maximilian Doppelbauer, N. Walter, S. Hofsäss +7 more

Recently, we determined the detailed energy level structure of the X1Σ+, A1Π and a3Π states of AlF that are relevant to laser cooling and trapping experiments [Truppe et al., Phys. Rev. A. 100 (5), 052513 (2019)]. Here, we investigate the b3Σ+,v=0 state of the AlF molecule. A rotationally resolved (1 + 2)-REMPI spectrum of the b3Σ+,v′=0←a3Π,v″=0 band is presented and the lifetime of the b3Σ+,v=0 state is measured to be 190(2) ns. Hyperfine-resolved, laser-induced fluorescence spectra of the b3Σ+,v′=0←X1Σ+,v″=1 and the b3Σ+,v′=0←a3Π,v″=0 bands are recorded to determine fine- and hyperfine structure parameters. The interaction between the b3Σ+,v=0 and the nearby A1Π state is studied and the magnitude of the spin–orbit coupling between the two electronic states is derived using three independent methods to give a consistent value of 10(1) cm−1. The triplet character of the A state causes an A→a loss from the main A−X laser cooling cycle below the 10−6 level.

Feasibility study of laser cooling of InF molecule

Quan-Shun Yang, Tao Gao

By employing ab initio quantum chemistry method, we investigate the feasibility of laser cooling InF molecule. Four low-lying electronic states (X1Σ+, C1Π, 3Π and 23Π) of InF have been calculated using the multi-reference configuration interaction (MRCI) method. The spin-orbit coupling effects are also taken into account in the electronic structure computation at the MRCI level. The highly diagonal Franck-Condon factors for C1Π → X1Σ+ transitions are estimated. The radiative lifetime of the C1Π (v′ = 0) state is about 2.22 ns, which is found to be enough short for rapid laser cooling. Though the cooling wavelength of InF is located in the short-wavelength ultraviolet light (UVC), a frequency quadrupled Ti: sapphire laser (189–235 nm) could be capable of generating laser transition wavelength of InF. Furthermore, the C1Π → X1Σ+ transitions perhaps can be followed by the B3Π1 → X1Σ+0+ transitions to attain a lower Doppler temperature. Meanwhile, for achieving quasi-closed transition cycle of InF molecule, we investigate the hyperfine structure of the lowest state X1Σ+. Overall, the present results indicate the possibility of laser cooling InF molecules.
